Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., said Sunday that he intends to file a motion to oust House Speaker Kevin McCarthy this week after Congress voted to avert a shutdown hours before the deadline.
"I do intend to file a motion to vacate against Speaker McCarthy this week," Gaetz said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think we need to rip off the band aid. I think we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy."
Gaetz also confirmed that he'll soon file a motion to vacate the speakership in an appearance on ABC News' "This Week," after the Senate and House on Saturday night voted to pass a short-term bill to keep the government funded through Nov. 17.
In response to Gaetz' announcement, McCarthy said, “That’s nothing new ... He’s tried to do that from the moment I ran for office ... Yes, I’ll survive. You know, this is personal with Matt.”

Sad but true. Jordan reminds me of Trey Gowdy.
McCarthy is doing the best he can with one of the slimmest Republican majorities in history thanks in large part to the collective mess Ronna, Trump, and good ole Mitch made of the mid-terms,
Matt Gaetz would have us think that he is the only member of Congress who is a pure and true conservative savior. His repeated attempts to control others via threats and aggression are signs of a sociopath.
Matt Gaetz has an ongoing love affair with the microphone, and an uncanny habit of tossing fellow GOP members under the bus. The microphone is Gaetz’ tool to publicly criticize and threaten McCarthy, Donalds, J. Jordan, et al, rather than collaborate with them to build consensus.
Exactly what I was about to post.
It’s just an observation.
If not now, when?
McCarthy pledged to make a stand and get our process for a “clean” budget back on track.
Kevin has many good qualities, but I am past the point of cutting slack for anything other than protecting the future of my children and grandchildren and this insane spending (2T deficit?) when we are not in a war for our survival guarantees our fiscal death and leaves our children to clean up the mess.
It is not right. We have to get this fixed and it is the responsibility of congress to allocate money. Under the current broken system with omnibus bills everyone gets pretty much every dollar they ask for.....
And a generous scoop of sand makes the grinding music to my ears.
McCarthy is more influenced by his roommate Luntz than he is by the conservatives.
Here’s the point you’re missing. Who would replace him and would the few votes on the far right become the rule? In your dreams. The Dems have the Senate and the house. Be real. You really think a shut down would do the trick?? The odds are against it...especially with our involvement with Ukraine.
Amen
Last week I heard Newt tell Hannity he thought Matt Gaetz was deranged.
Gaetz is loud mouthed jerk...what I call...a rabble rouser...without any idea for a solution.
I hate Kevin’s demeanor. He is too much of a “reach across the aisle” RINO. We need a Speaker in the mould of Patton. Someone who will grab the Dems by the balls and kick them in the ass.
Kevin KISSES ASS!!!
So your answer is to leave McCarthy in charge and just give up? I’d rather try with someone else as Speaker. We opposed swampy McCarthy to begin with. Problem is, McCarthy will survive but only because his best friends, the Dems, will vote for him. The word is out that McCarthy’s support among Rs is very thin. I’d rather Jordan give it a try and see what he can do.
There has been no opposition party in this country for a very long time. Now we have an in-your-face uniparty.
I’ll second that!
You are right, McCarthy has a slim margin. However, he is the ONLY person in congress with the true ability to make a stand and tell everyone the party is over and its time to clean up.
All of us (me too) love to talk about China, Russia, and other boogers that might somehow pose a military threat to our nation when the biggest threat we face to our security is DEBT.
I had high hopes for Kevin and realized he was in a difficult spot but he DID pledge to try and fix the budget process and here we are again.... kick the can and piss on my children.
This is generational theft, it is a HUGE tax on every working American with the poor affected the worst, and it will absolutely destroy our nation.
Stop spending money!!!!!! Regardless of liking McCarthy he is not cleaning up the budget process or getting congress back to clean spending bills. Without that, everything else is just fodder for the talking heads and pundit class even as the destination remains the same.
This was the reason the battle over the speakership was waged. I am seeing a lot of “personality” stuff with Gaetz and maybe its valid, but all it does is hide what is important nor does it address Matt’s complaint (see backtrack by Maria B last week).
What you see is what you get.
