My dad was born and raised in NYC. The Navy sent him home after WW2. He packed his belongings and left for Arizona three months later and never returned.
Thus showing he was not a real New Yorker. I worked and lived there for a couple of years in the early ‘70s and observed the character traits I mentioned first hand. It wasn’t every New Yorker, but the majority were as I described. The ones who lived in Manhattan were on average the worst. I especially noticed their undeserved attitude of superiority to everyone who lived outside the five boroughs simply because they lived in “the city”.
