Thank you for pointing out the obvious sane and sensible precautions-I live in a rural area where you can pretty much count on every person you see being armed-and its a good thing...
A few months ago, my friend and employer was on a repair call to a business in the city that is a gun-free zone-so he left his pistol in his locked van, grabbed a couple of tools he knew he’d need and went inside to see the problem. When he came back out to get more tools, etc the back doors of the van were open and there was a guy crawling in.
My friend grabbed a pipe wrench he had on his belt, went to the van and grabbed the thief by the back of his shirt and pulled him out-when the guy took a swing at him, my friend hit him several times with the wrench until he was on the ground and no threat-then he called the cops and waited for them, standing over the thief-who was arrested. Turns out that he broke the thief’s jaw, several other injuries, etc. My friend/boss is 74, but he is 6’3” in great shape and does a physical job. Do not try to steal from old people-they will try to kill you...
“Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight he’ll just kill you.”
John Steinbeck, “The Grapes of Wrath”
I should have worded that differently.
I meant to *split* the $1,000 between the three files.
You’re not earning anything on your liquid money in the bank. You may as well keep $1,000 at home this way as leave it in the bank.
My daughter used money as book marks and she is a big reader. When he helped her move one time, the amount of money we found like that was ridiculous. All of her books get checked before they are sold/traded.
That fits the bill. An easy going low life in a Dobie Gillis kind of way.
Luckily, I live in a place where people know not to rob people lest they get aired out
Thugs don’t steal books. We found an insane amount of money in my MIL’s books.
We keep our cash under the silverware drawer because thieves don’t steal flatware. I had a friend who kept a roll of cash in a coffee mug on the top shelf of a cabinet. He warned me “If this goes missing, I’m coming for you” to which I responded “Do you know what kind of gun I can buy with that?”
Exactly.
Sounds ideal.
Good for you!
The bad guy chose poorly.
Very poorly-the fringe benefit is that nobody has bothered that van again, no matter what jobsite it is parked on-word apparently got around about some crazy old guy who beats the s*** out of thieves with a pipe wrench...
Pretty impressive!
Good advice.
You tried to be funny, I’ll give you that.
Tell her you’ll be back shortly...
Always have a steel 24inch pipe wrench at the hip in blue states
A reputation that I would be proud to have1😉🤣
I like this idea. We already have the metal file drawers with hanging folders for all the appliances, etc. definitely some with “medical/insurance info” type stuff. Can at least stuff an envelope with a few hundo into a few of them. Wouldn’t hurt. Thank you.
