Deputies said a couple was robbed after being followed by four men from an ATM in Katy. Court records state the suspects each have a criminal history of driving to multiple banks and looking for people with cash with an intent to rob at gunpoint.

The news report says, "Three of the four suspects have lengthy and violent rap sheets."
(The one without the long prison record is only 17. They still named him and showed his mugshot because he's being charged as an adult.)
Whoever keeps letting those three out again and again and again should be charged as accessories to their crimes.

Many times they have inside help from the bank, a teller will signal when somebody withdraws a lot of cash.
Never, never, never use an ATM. You can get money back from a lot of places when you make a purchase.

My suggestion to people is, if you don’t have a safe in the house, you probably have a filing cabinet for your personal records. Take $1,000 out of the bank in twenties put it in three different envelopes and put each one of those envelopes in a different file folder which has other material in it.
If someone breaks into your house they’re not going to rifle through all your individual files. Not going to happen. When you need $50 or $60 in cash just take it out of the file.
If you’re concerned about carrying cash out of the bank, do it at a drive-in window.
The best thing is to always be armed and live where this s**t doesn’t happen.

I have managed to live my whole life successfully and never ever once used an ATM. Never had an ATM card. Never had a debit card and never have paid credit card interest in something like 60 years as an adult. In doing so I have traveled around the world several times. Your mileage may vary?

If I’m using an ATM at night, I always shoot out the overhead security light (from a distance), don my night-vision goggles, scan the area for perps in hiding...and approach the darkened ATM...only if it’s clear. Of course, I’m armed and wearing my bulletproof vest.
I keep mine in a file that I have used almost all my life. It’s called a pocket.
Dumbest advice of the thread..so far
“Jugging” referred to safecracking at one time, but how it changed to the current usage isn’t clear, at least from anything I could find in a quick search.
Stick it in a book on a shelf amongst other books. Robbers aren’t looking through any books. To a robber, that’s like garlic to a vampire.
That crime needs a better name: “Jugging”?
That sounds like something related to Moonshine.
I'll see that and raise you - live on an island that cannot be accessed by road where most everyone is armed ('cuz Bears) and you don't need a permit to carry.
Visiting the ATM is perfectly safe. Leave your front door unlocked and the car keys in the ignition? No problem.
I’d probably forget 2 of the 3 hiding spots.
