The Senate voted Tuesday to advance a short-term funding measure to avoid a government shutdown at the end of the week.
The Senate voted 77 to 19 to advance the legislative vehicle they will use for a continuing resolution funding government until Nov. 17.
The vote puts the Senate on a path to pass a continuing resolution (CR) later this week that it could then send to the House to avoid a shutdown on Oct. 1.
The House has been stuck on how to move forward with funding the government amid disputes among Republicans in the majority.
If the Senate does approve a CR, it could put pressure on the House to bring it to the floor and avoid a shutdown, particularly in the lower chamber has not made much progress on its own.
The Senate legislation will fund the federal government until Nov. 17, the week before Thanksgiving, and provide approximately $6.15 billion in funding for Ukraine and $5.99 billion in disaster assistance.
The legislation will also temporarily extend the expiring authority of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Senate leaders kept the details of the legislation secret until shortly before Tuesday’s vote as lawmakers wrestled behind the scenes over adding money for Ukraine

The polar opposite of happy.
All of their decades of fraud and theft has put us here and they can’t possibly ever fix themselves.
I thought the house is the one who writes the bills not the senate.
No more money for Zelensky and Joe Bribey funneled through Ukraine for starters.
It might be different if they were really trying to win a war
They’re not.
Gaetz wants McCarthy to keep his promises to the American people for a change.
Our nation is bankrupt & collapsing. Mass lootings now.
NO more money for Nazi Ukraine.
This is a “shell” bill to get round that.
They should ban this practice in my opinion
Well, that was certainly a quick “fold”. We had “middle of the road” and “moderate” GOP speakers of the house stretch it out longer and get more concessions than did McCarthy!
It’s amazing how quickly a true and avowed “conservative”, that everyone assures me is doing all he can do and will stand strong against the left, will fold! Of course, now we will hear he did the best he could and it was the Freedom Caucus that caused all the problems and prevented McCarthy from getting anymore more.
I {spit} in his general direction!
Of course it expires just before Thanksgiving. You will see the sob stories on the MSM of government employees saying there will be no turkey on the table this year unless another CR is passed. Congress never misses a chance to flee town and they won’t stay during Thanksgiving, so they will pass one at midnight before they leave
Wait! That said “Senate” didn’t it! Never mind!

Is turnover (firings) this many, normal in the Navy?
SOS from these clowns.
By the way next month Chuck Schumer leads a bipartisan delegation to Japan, South Korea and China.
Ranking Republican on trip Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho.
A money trip IMHO to back up all this wasteful spending.
23 looking good votes there but Rand Paul and JD Vance are among the few who are voting with their hearts on this IMHO.
Dear Senate,
FAAAAAA-Q
Is the 6 billion in disk assistance for American citizens or Ukraine. How much gets launder back to those who voted for bill?
Wasn’t Trump asking for around $5 bil for the wall?
McCarthy better kill this monstrosity.
But he won’t.
