The Speaker of the House of Commons in the Canadian parliament resigned on Tuesday after taking responsibility for celebrating a 98-year-old Ukrainian who served in a Nazi-controlled unit in World War II during a reception for President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Announcing his resignation as speaker, Liberal MP Anthony Rota said per public broadcaster CBC: “I have acted as your humble servant, carrying out the important responsibilities of this position to the very best of my abilities. The work of this House is above any of us. Therefore, I must step down as your Speaker,” Rota said at 2 p.m. ahead of Tuesday’s question period.

“I reiterate my profound regret for my error in recognizing an individual in the House.

It didn’t even take 48 hours for that to blow up in their faces.

Its nice to see statist-liberal stupidity rewarded so quickly.

Didn’t Castro’s Bastard bring the Nazi to the party? Where is his resignation?

So what exactly did the old Ukrainian do in the German army? If all he did was help the Germans fight the Russians, who can blame him? He was literally fighting for his own country's protection.

Ukraine's Holodomor experience at the hands of Russia caused Ukrainians to see Germany's attacks on Russia from a perspective of the enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend.

Zelensky told Trudeau to have him speak, and Trudeau told the Speaker to book him. The idea of doing a background check never occurred to either of them.

It wasn’t nazi controlled, it was Waffen SS. An important distinction

I’d love to know how much of the taxpayer’s money he got paid to fall on the sword.

Canada has HUGE problems, but they can still be shamed sometimes. Does anyone here think Nancy Pelosi would have stepped down if she were Speaker?

Wasn’t the Waffen SS not a special islamic attack group of the WW2 Germans?

He was not in the German Army. He was in the Waffen SS. Big difference. We don’t know if the guy was a war criminal, but unit he served in was involved in atrocities.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that the Waffen-SS did more than just the Final Solution. I was under the impression that they were heavily involved in the fighting on the Russian front too. I was also under the impression that it was the habit of Germany to send the foreign soldiers within the Waffen-SS to the SS’s various missions that those soldiers would most passionately fight for. In other words, Ukrainians were more liable to viciously kill Russians so a significant portion of them were put onto the Russian front.

The Waffen SS had troops of many nationalities serving under them. But they were considered regular troops.

Zelensky told Trudeau to have him speak, and Trudeau told the Speaker to book him

complete BS, with zero evidence to back that up

Rota was an MP, and the Ukrainian guy was one of his constituents, so Rota was trying to honor him

if you proof that says contrary, let's hear it

otherwise STHU about stuff you know nothing about

“In a speech to the soldiers of the 1st Galician division, Heinrich Himmler stated:”

“Your homeland has become so much more beautiful since you have lost – on our initiative, I must say – those residents who were so often a dirty blemish on Galicia’s good name, namely the Jews ... I know that if I ordered you to liquidate the Poles ... I would be giving you permission to do what you are eager to do anyway.”

Fuck you you prick. Take your excuses for this crap and shove them up your filthy pig ass.
