Prosecutor lays out case against Menendez on bribery, corruption charges

Sending shock waves across New Jersey’s political landscape, Damian Williams, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Friday announced a three-count indictment alleging bribery and corruption by Sen. Bob Menendez. It’s the second time New Jersey’s senior senator has faced federal charges.

Gov. Phil Murphy called on Menendez to resign. As the day wore on, similar calls from other fellow Democrats started to mount. Among those calling for his resignation were U.S. Rep. Andy Kim (3rd), U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-6th), Senate President Nick Scutari, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, state Attorney General Matthew Platkin and New Jersey Democratic State Committee Chairman LeRoy J. Jones Jr.

In his statement released late Friday afternoon, Murphy said, “The allegations in the indictment against Senator Menendez and four other defendants are deeply disturbing. These are serious charges that implicate national security and the integrity of our criminal justice system. Under our legal system, Senator Menendez and the other defendants have not been found guilty and will have the ability to present evidence disputing these charges, and we must respect the process. However, the alleged facts are so serious that they compromise the ability of Senator Menendez to effectively represent the people of our state. Therefore, I am calling for his immediate resignation.”

We're a nation of laws, but we don't actually obey them.

Drivers have a keen sense of what they can get away with, from going 5 over the limit to rolling through a stop sign. I'd bet 50% of people who drive to work have broken at least one law before they get there in the morning.

A neighbor is a lawyer. Most on the street obey the regulations about trash pickup, recycling, etc, but not him. It appears that lawyers have a keen sense of what they can get away with on a broader scope than drivers.

Politicians are lawyers. Plus they are embedded in a political system where advancement is directly related on people providing benefits to other, whether political support, patronage, contributions, etc. Much of how politicians advance within the system is marginally legal. Therefore, politicians have a keen sense of what they can get away with in an even broader and more serious scope than lawyers.

But Bob went too far.

I’m fine with Democrats going after their own. Enjoy.

But I have problems with how the media has painted the mere posession of gold and cash as some sort of crime.

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

As if Guv Murphy hasn’t known what has been going on for years. NJ has been a cesspool of corruption for 150 years or more. Nobody gets elected NJ without wallowing in the cesspool and knowing all the others in the cesspool with him.

I’m waiting for Robert to toss Nadine under the bus. They married in 2020 after meeting in an IHOP restaurant. The evidence is heavily tilted toward Nadine’s direct involvement.

I can’t believe no one in the ragtime “yellowstream media” has brought up anything about the señorita business.

Everyone has known Menendez is a crook for many years but nothing has been done until now. Likewise everyone has known Biden is a crook for many years and nothing has been done about it. When are they going to do something about him? Rhetorical question, I already know the answer.

“Prosecutor lays out case against Menendez on bribery, corruption charges”

Garland is REQUIRED to approve of the indictment and, as we all know, Garland ALWAYS protects Democrats, at all costs.

Which then leads to question of why did he approve this indictment? I don’t know that answer, but I suspect that we’ll learn that fairly soon.
