Democratic pressure is growing on Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., to resign after he was charged with bribery in an indictment filed in Manhattan federal court that was made public Friday.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Democratic state committee chairman LeRoy J. Jones Jr. have joined the growing chorus of New Jersey politicians calling for Menendez to step down.

Gottheimer said in a statement on Saturday that Menendez "has been a critical voice and a tough fighter for Jersey, with a strong record," that includes gun safety, protecting women's rights and fighting racism and anti-Semitism.

"I believe the Senator deserves his day in court, with a presumption of innocence," Gottheimer said in the statement posted to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. "That said, given the gravity of the allegations, I believe it will be difficult for the Senator to carry out his responsibilities. For the good of the state, he should step aside as he focuses on his defense."

It took five people to write this article. Whenever you see multiple authors to a media piece, you know they're actively pushing something. They have to get all the t's crossed etc.

Menendez was appointed in 2006 by new governor John Corzine, to fill his own US Senate seat.

Corzine wound up being corrupt and Chris Christie beat him in the next election.

But if you recall, the Democrats played this “get rid of a corrupt senator” game in 2003, when corrupt Bob Torricelli was in danger of losing his reelection, so they parachuted in retired Frank Lautenberg at the last minute, who won the November election, and ended up staying in the Senate till he died in 2013.

It’s New Jersey, so it doesn’t really matter. Corrupt Democrats are pretty common there. They probably just want to get a diversity hire in there without an election.

Only a far left wingnut named Gottheimer would put “gun safety” ahead of “protecting women’s rights” and “fighting against racism and antisemitism. DemonRATS are such hypocrites.

Remember Governor Jon Corzine stealing $1.2 billion dollars in client funds from MF Global? And nothing happened to the guy. Probably next to New York, New Jersey is by far the most corrupt state in the union and has been for decades, and all the corruption - discounting Christie and bridgegate - comes from Democrats yet the morons there keep voting democrat. Look at Menendez, why the hell is he even in office? He’s been busted before.

“that includes gun safety, protecting women’s rights and fighting racism and anti-Semitism”

Lol.

In other words as long as you parrot the left’s talking points you can steal to your heart’s content—but please don’t be dumb enough to get caught...

He did nothing wrong. Did not hurt anyone. Did not start a war. Let him stay.

To be fair to actual New Jersey voters the last governor’s race was also stolen after midnight....

The corruption runs wide and deep.

He probably is not more corrupt than the average Democratic US Senator if all the truth were revealed.

That is what they are worried about....

I see a smoother transition to his successor. Can’t let the voters decide.

Perhaps... Or perhaps his fatal mistake was that when the DemRatMarxists needed a sacrificial lamb to throw under the bus in their efforts to prove that they simply aren’t turning a blind eye to the Bye-Done malfeasance, he didn’t move fast enough.

I do indeed!

He got fined $5 million and barred from the industry for life. The client accounts were all made whole, eventuality, supposedly. (The firm's investors got the shaft)

Agreed.

He is innocent until proven guilty, he needs to stay after all it was the voters (or was it?) who (s)elected him. BHO puppeteer master to FJB, wants him out of office. Public accusations of the weaponization, unequal justice of the FJB feral givernment against political enemies is having an negative effect that is trickling down to some of the more average persons (formerly respected as citizens). Notice that before Snake Garland showed up to [say nothing] before a Congr. committee, Hunter was indicted (on charges that should not have taken years to bring), Mr Epps was charged with a J6 misdemeanor, and not BM - Sen-NJ .... it’s an attempt too be able to say they are not dispensing justice unequally i.e. that Trump isn’t being singled out and really committed 91 criminal acts in 4 jurisdictions. Really he did, really, Yeh, right ...

Actually, the one I remember most was Al Franken. They sacrificed him (unfairly, in my opinion) knowing that he’d be replaced by another Democrat. But, at the same time, they used to show their ‘cred’ to make sure Roy Moore lost in Alabama (to a Democrat), which GREATLY hurt Trump as it empowered the RINOs by an order of magnitude for the rest of his presidency.

Didn’t a Democrat Congress lady defending the Bidens selling influence say, “We all do it”?
