Shoulda done it.
Thanks artichokegrower.
It all goes back to the Compromise of 1850 when Southern Democrats in Congress accepted admission of California as a free state because they believed California's representatives in Washington would be pro-slavery, and California would not strictly enforce abolition.
By 1861, Jefferson Davis had high hopes of sending Confederate armies to "liberate" California and make it part of the Confederacy, and well into 1862 that still seemed likely.
So much for the alleged "War of Northern Aggression".
California entered the union as a “free” state, yet enslavement was widely condoned.
If so it was by black slave owners there were many of them across the country mainly in the south one owned a few hundred.
A lot of history has been hid.
Part of assimilation is seeing the good part of your national or regional heritage and identifying with it. If your ancestors came here after the 1830s a lot of Americans wanted to keep them out. But your ancestors didn’t focus on that. They saw the good side of the country and wanted to be a part of that. Seems like many Americans have lost that ability or desire now.
They are assuming a connection to the Confederacy because they are linking the bear to Robert E. Lee.
Yah, this is all SLuis commie trash BS! All designed to justify wealth transfer from those who never benefited from slavery to those never descended from slaves — unlike the Veep, BTWay.
