Russia, the United States and China have all built new facilities and dug new tunnels at their nuclear test sites in recent years, satellite images obtained exclusively by CNN show, at a time when tensions between the three major nuclear powers have risen to their highest in decades.
While there is no evidence to suggest that Russia, the US or China is preparing for an imminent nuclear test, the images, obtained and provided by a prominent analyst in military nonproliferation studies, illustrate recent expansions at three nuclear test sites compared with just a few years ago.

I’d agree to all 3 having 150kt or so above ground tests, 1 each to get some bitchin nice new HD footage. The USA keeps wanting to test a w76 replacement and that would be a good thing too.
Used to be in that business, haven’t heard anything. Since our last test was in 1992, all the legacy talent we had is long retired or dead.

Odds of it being an important investigative journalism piece are pretty much zero.

Trump was pumping billions into our nuke forces to counter Russia, of course we are going to show new activity in “recent years”.
VAFB, CA is our only "nuclear test site", in that it launches MMIII operational test flights down range. And it is ALWAY "active" and has been so since the 60's!!!
If the Russians start nuclear testing, then that indicates they’re losing in Ukraine and are getting ready to ‘up the stakes’ a bit. Same for the US.

I was out there with the gang in P-Tunnel when the Clinton admin realized they owned the nukes and ordered us to shut down the test. That was around April 1993 IIRC.
A good portion of the folks I worked with at Sandia and Los Alamos have passed on and some are pretty darned old. Back then I was in my early 30s and now am so old I was just booted to Medicare and Tricare for life.
They have lost most of the "corporate knowledge" and from some of the folks I still talk to the younger types there are so full of hubris they refuse to ask those of us who are still around anything. Their reliance on computers is not comforting as they are now close to the realm of GIGO.
