Senate GOP predicts McCarthy will go to Democrats for votes (just like Boehner did)

Senate Republicans are predicting that Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will need to reach out to House Democrats to get the votes to prevent a government shutdown at the end of next week.

GOP senators don’t think McCarthy will be able to unify his entire GOP conference behind any measure to prevent an Oct. 1 shutdown and will have to rely on Democrats to keep federal departments and agencies open.

But they predict the Speaker won’t reach out across the aisle until the last possible moment to avoid a backlash from House conservatives, who are threatening to offer a motion to essentially dump him as Speaker if he does not hew to their demands for major spending cuts.

The reality, they say, is that the only spending measure that can pass both the Senate and House is one that has bipartisan support.

“He’s a new Speaker, this is a test of his Speakership,” said one Republican senator who requested anonymity to discuss party strategy. “Sooner or later he’s going to have to go to [House Democratic Leader] Hakeem Jeffries [N.Y.] because we’re going to get a CR on this side and what will pass here just is not going to get 218 Republicans in the House.”

They don't care HOW they get there.

They just want SOME continuing resolution that takes us to December. So there can be another continuing resolution that takes us to March.

Just like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that...since 2007, when Pelosi took over the House.

No individual bills. Just ONE BIG bill with ONE yes or no vote.

McCarthy just doesn’t have the Cajones to fight with the opposition that is necessary. He’s like McConnell and McDaniel, they take the easy way out.

This is the Congressional equivalent of ranked choice voting.

A mechanism to avoid populism from obstructing Swamp funding.

Certain types of swamp funding could never win a vote if it were taken to the floor of either house. To get that funded it must be bundled. That grew to the point where everything gets bundled. And that’s how you get 33T in debt.

The bundle will pass, it has to pass. Social Security is in the bundle. Old people vote, and they vote their pocketbook. You could get anything at all through Congress if you bundled it with Social Security.

This is just what CaveIn McCarthy will do. As I predicted a long time ago. He should never have been given the honor of House Speaker.

Ralph Norman (Pussy-SC) is on Bannon’s War Room making an argument to vote for a CR. His argument is based on the idea he can fight for appropriations bills under regular order if a CR is in place.

So, in other words, surrender until they don’t fight yet again and surrender yet again.

I can’t stand pussies. Republicans have no backbone. You can’t give up the leverage of a government shutdown by continuing Biden-Pelosi spending. It makes you an eff’n weak loser and guarantees increases in already out of control spending. Every argument these pussies have are half baked and based on false assumptions and lies. It is sickening.

Yup; Uni-Party.

He'll get their vote by dumping money to fulfill their demands for their Amendments, and it will pass. The whole process is built around "Bribes", using taxpayer money, to buy the votes of Congressmen, the same way it's done in the Senate.....count on it.

It would be nice to see the Repukes stand their ground once. “What will get 218 votes here will have to be accepted by the Senate”. Why does thr Senate have the final say. Let Senators make the case that the country should go bankrupt because Ukraine didn’t grt 23billion
Such cowards.

The bundle will pass, it has to pass. Social Security is in the bundle.

Every time there's the threat of a shutdown, this falsehood is put out there by the MSM to drum up support for the dems.

Social Security is not impacted by a shutdown.

Us old farts will still be paid our due, while the rest of the government gets a paid vacation.

Don’t need to fight. Pass what you can. They have to explain why you have to shutdown the government because Ukraine didn’t get 23b. Not rocket science.

(just like Boehner did)

No need to add that because McCarthy already went to the Democrats for the Debt Ceiling hike deal that he caved on.

“Why does thr Senate have the final say.”

What used to happen is that the House would pass a bill, and the Senate would pass a bill, and they would go to a conference committee to battle out the differences.

Now, they like to put the House up against a wall and say “hey, you guys gotta pass something that’ll get through our body...or else.”

That’s why they intentionally dither all year, then get to September 30th (up against a wall), then yell and scream to get a CR. Then it’s pushed to December when they yell and scream again (up against the Christmas break) to get another CR, which takes them to March, and it starts all over again.

I agree, give them what you’ve got. Then let the Senate & Biden either accept or reject and then the government closure becomes theirs to contend with. 🙂

Oh BTW, this is the perfect time to defund all of the NGO funding. This is the vehicle which is being used to destroy our nation. Also defund all payments to fund the Ukraine/Russia conflict.

The invasion along both borders will cease immediately. Because without that money these NGOs will not be rewarded for their involvement in getting these invaders to out borders. Thus they will cease assisting them to come.

I saw a headline that said dysfunctional house can't pass budget.
It's been the dysfunctional senate that hasn't taken up a single regular order budget bill.
Schumer likes CR's because he gets to keep the pelosi out of control budget numbers.
But once again the press is in the tank.
If McCarthy passes the CR, I hope theirs a new speaker soon.

That’s why they want a one-vote CR every year, so that EVERYTHING gets funded and NOTHING is de-funded by the House’s power of the purse.
