House Democrats weigh risky strategy: Whether to save McCarthy

House Democrats have begun internal discussions about how to deal with the prospects of a chaotic situation: The possibility that Speaker Kevin McCarthy could lose his job in an unprecedented vote on the floor.

While no decisions have been made, some of the party’s moderates are privately signaling they’d be willing to cut a deal to help McCarthy stave off a right-wing revolt – as long as the speaker meets their own demands.

Publicly, Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has not weighed in on how he’d want his members to manage a challenge to McCarthy’s speakership, saying it’s hypothetical at this point. But privately, Jeffries has counseled his members to keep their powder dry, according to multiple sources, a recognition it’s better for Democrats to keep their options open as the government funding fight plays outs.

“If somehow Democrats are asked to be helpful, it’s not just going to have to be out of the kindness of our hearts,” Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan, told CNN. “If Kevin can’t govern with just his part – which clearly he can’t – and he wants to have a conversation with us about how to do that, we are going to have a policy conversation.”

Asked recently by CNN if he would need to rely on Democrats to help save him, McCarthy would not say.

We shouldn’t be surprised if Rat Party Headquarters has a fantasy of a Rat Speaker in the coming days/weeks.

The Base has already kicked out Mittens and Crazy Liz.
Turtle is going to be gone in a year or so.
McCarthy should know he is next.
If he doesn’t know...he is not fit to run the GOP House.

You really think the Dems care more about Ukraine than they do about locking up Trump?

No but the hold out Republicans are holding out because of Ukraine funding. I suspect they’d bite that bullet if the DOJ was defunded and couldn’t interfere in the election. Ukraine or DOJ, you can fund one but not both.

If he does his political career is effectively over. A good deal of his caucus will desert him.

Sounds like the Dems all know they have McCarthy in their back pocket, but probably around half or more Republicans still think McCarthy really has their best interests.

Kabuki theater. The minute trump endorsed McCarthy over many nominees with a fiscally conservative record the deal was sealed.
McCarthy and trump will be texting the ones who dare step into the Marxists way and tell them to fund Marxists…. So people will like us.
Utter BS trump is openly stating he will stand with Marxists on every issue if they will like him.
That’s how we were locked down, masked, shut down, while trump n fauci picked the winners of big pharma and big government medicine.

It's not a fantasy.

It takes five Republicans to depose McCarthy. It takes five OTHER Republicans to put Jeffries in the chair.

It takes 218 Republicans to elect a Speaker other than McCarthy.

Do the math.
