U.S. military officials are searching for a missing F-35 jet after a "mishap" caused its pilot to eject on Sunday afternoon.
Joint Base Charleston said on Facebook that the aircraft was a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II belonging to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. The pilot ejected safely and was transported to a local medical center.
The base is working with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to help locate the missing aircraft. Emergency response teams have been deployed to find the jet.
"Based on the jet’s last-known position and in coordination with the FAA, we are focusing our attention north of JB Charleston, around Lake Moultrie and Lake Marion," Joint Base Charleston said in a statement on Facebook.
"The public is asked to cooperate with military and civilian authorities as the effort continues," the base added.
Anyone with information about the jet's whereabouts is urged to contact JB Charleston Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600.

Is this the same new aircraft that pilots groused about having oxygen problems?
No I don’t think we do,(Marine planes never) but then again I don’t think pilots usually eject from jets on auto pilot that can still fly or have a wingman who lands rather than follows the ‘lost’ plane to see where it crashes. Lots of flat out weirdness in this story.
I’m thinking of putting up a “Missing and Exploited F-35” website but as has been said I am unsure what pronouns to give it in the Biden Marine Corps.
He did ?
I can see that if there’s maneuvers going on.
I haven’t looked at news today.
it’s a question... it shouldn’t be that hard to find, so why is it?
An old boss decades ago taught me the meaning of FUBAR. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was based in Alaska. A most decent gentleman.
This is what shook my confidence:
“The public is asked to cooperate with military and civilian authorities as the effort continues,” the base added.
Anyone with information about the jet’s whereabouts is urged to contact JB Charleston Base Defense Operations Center at….”
The Military has to depend on us civilians? I am not comfortable with this. That is all I meant with my comment.
Another term that means the same as FUBAR is cluster #$$@, sometimes, in polite company, just cluster. Cluster is a military slang term, referring to a situation, where multiple things had gone off the rail, presumed to be the responsibility of inept officers, who are decorated with oak leaf clusters. Sometimes we say Charlie Foxtrot. Used more today than FUBAR.
But I understand what you’re saying. If it happens more than once, I will be uncomfortable, too.
Ok, this whole thing is starting to sound very chicomish/pedoslowjoe/cokefacedboy...
Or EBE snag job like MH370. Do You remember the JAL Cargo Flight 1628 ? Captain Kenju Terauchi said that it was twice the size of an aircraft carrier.
Did they make any 2 seat training versions ?
But what the hay We the People will just whip out that Pentagram Titanium Card and buy a replacement...
Somewhere that plane landed itself, fueled itself up, and took off. Now it’s out there somewhere, looking for its pilot.
Actually there’s been several Nuke Devices that have gone broken arrow over the years. 2 that come to mind were Georgia and New Hampshire . GA is still missing and NH was recovered. Also 2 near Spain in to coastal waters.

And it looks like a total of 6 missing according to this.

No kidding. I know that. But why would an USMC F35 flying by itself have a nuke. They are not bombers…they don’t carry nukes.
Come on…use some common sense. Next you will be joining the cascade thinking it had a DEW on it, and its burning up the Bahamas.
I posted/said nothing about the F-35 being Nuclear capable or carrying a Nuclear Weapon.
As far as your DEW comment I know that there’s no possibility of that simply based on the Power Supply requirements of a DEW.
Feel free to show Me where I suggested either of those scenarios.
If anything oddball I did Post this to someone else:
“this whole thing is starting to sound very chicomish/pedoslowjoe/cokefacedboy...”
They finally found it.
blind man wi his cane... right???
They were not really clear about thar but I think it was Sheriff Department. With a Seeing Eye Dog.
Series.
Most search radars are on the ground.
Hard to see the canopy unless the plane is inverted.
ATC should have been tracking him constantly; right?
Do I HAVE to say it?
Wouldn’t the search radar have to be ABOVE him to see the canopy?
Thousands of security cams.
