Republican Texas AG Ken Paxton is acquitted of 16 corruption charges at impeachment trial

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was acquitted Saturday of all charges at a historic impeachment trial that divided Republicans over whether to remove a powerful defender of former President Donald Trump after years of scandal and criminal charges.

The verdict reaffirmed Paxton’s durability in America’s biggest red state and is a broader victory for Texas’ hard right after an extraordinary trial that put on display fractures within the GOP nationally heading into the 2024 elections. In the end, Paxton was fully cleared by Senate Republicans, who serve alongside his wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton.

Angela Paxton was not allowed to vote. But she attended all two weeks of the trial, including the reading of the verdict, when all but two of her fellow 18 Republican senators consistently voted to acquit her husband on 16 impeachment articles that accused him of misconduct, bribery and corruption.

TB (Tony Buzbee) is like having AI on your side, he takes in everything and then processes it like nothing else. This “trial” wasn’t even fair since the Texas House brought such stupid things to the table.

I once saw TB read an entire box of documents then ponder it all for a moment. He then pulled out two pieces of paper and showed them to two lawyers he was replacing. They turned white because they had not put things together and immediately saw what he had found. I asked him how he did that and he said “pull out any piece of paper, it’s in my head”. I said bull$hit Tony and pulled out a random page that he proceeded to read back to me word for word.

After watching him for many years I’d say that at this point in time he is the best he has ever been. He’s a tough but kindhearted guy who especially likes beating up people who have done the little guy wrong.

The outcome of the Paxton impeachment is no surprise to me.

Are the remaining charges as groundless as those raised in the impeachment?

What Ken Paxton’s impeachment trial means for America

The problem? The accusations, sexy and salacious as they may be, simply aren’t true. In no way, shape, or form did the House prove its case with tangible, clear, or convincing evidence. In fact, the defense presented evidence that shredded every article of impeachment listed.

Does this mean that the fascist bureau of incrimination will have to intervene directly since the local operation failed?

Hey Ken, if they call you in for an "interview", please go with lots of good lawyers and take a lot of video.

The house is the prosecutor and the senate is the jury would be the analogy.

Bush era needs to end. A very sad time in our history.

I agree.

The more distance we have from that era, the more we're going to learn about them. And it won't be pretty.

The Ass Press is trying to put their spin on it. The liberal republicans have been behind the false allegations against Paxton from literally the day he first took office.

I believe the lesser of two evils is still evil. And nothing in the GOP will change for the better until you folks drive the Uni Party Rinos out!

My grandmother taught me how to deal with rattlesnakes. She took care of her last one when she was 95. She was really good with a cotton hoe.

But the snake pit called DC is even too big for my uncles eye hoe.

But none the less, DC is certainly long overdue a cleaning of the hen house and eradication of the snakes.

No, Obama is much more of an ideologue, Hillary is more of an opportunist. Hillary would have been less terrible.

My rep voted NO for impeachment and publicly stated why so her constituents would know. I am glad she voted NO because I think she is doing a good job and I would hate to vote against her next year.
