President Biden on Friday delivered brief remarks on the United Auto Workers strike that began Thursday night, accusing auto companies of refusing to share their profits with workers.
In a televised statement, Biden said the Big Three automakers were making "record profits" that "have not been shared fairly, in my view, with workers."
"No one wants a strike," Biden said. "But I respect workers' right to use their options under the collective bargaining system. Autoworkers sacrificed so much to keep the industry alive and strong, especially through the economic crisis and the pandemic. Workers deserve a fair share of the benefits they helped create for an enterprise."
The president spoke for fewer than five minutes and did not take questions from the press. He called for the strike to be resolved with "record contracts" for UAW workers to match "record corporate profits."
"The bottom line is that autoworkers helped create America's middle class. They deserve a contract that sustains them in the middle class," Biden said.

Now THAT’S a communist attitude if there ever was one!
Turning people against other people is the oldest tool in the kit, it never wears out. Like hell fire.
They had one, before you came along.
Pharma folks make the HUGE profits...he says nothing.
Two weeks back...he said a strike would NEVER happen. That doesn’t seem to be working out.
UAW members already have a generous profit-sharing program (see link). They’re striking for salary, not profit-sharing.
Aaahhhhh yes.. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard it being in the skilled trades here in Detroit.. “we deserve a bigger slice of the pie!”... It’s like you fkng morons!! If you want a bigger piece of the pie, start your own d*maned company!! Man I hate these people!!
They voted for high inflation and the extreme rise in cost of living!! Deal with it!!!!!
Screw Detroit. My vehicles are made in Georgia and Alabama.
Damn , never take sides during a strike. Trump would have called both group together to sort out their differences.
“fair share”? who gets to define that? marx and engles wrote in the the communist manifesto “from each according to his ability to each according to his needs”. the Americanized version is “from those who can and do to those who could but won’t. why should they when they can use the police power of government to TAKE IT from those who can and do and give it those who could but won’t”
Old man is encouraging other industries to strike. Health care workers will be next.
Wuss republican politicians allowed this POS to be Selected as president...
How much of that “profit”is due to commie EV subsidies?
All new vehicles are seriously overpriced now.
UAW demands will only increase the costs.
Family incomes are decreasing - $2000 on average this year.
Companies may have no choice but to move overseas.
Buyers will have no choice but to buy foreign.
The federal government is forcing the the big US auto companies to make EVs, which they lose money on.
Top that off, the EVs might have expensive warranty problems because they are loaded with new, unproven parts.
Future profits are iffy in the coming years.
Perhaps delayed, contingent profit/loss-sharing might be possible.
For example, once all 2024 products go off warranty then maybe profit-sharing at that time would be possible, with clawbacks in case of post-warranty recalls and product liability payouts.
If UAW members think the shareholders have it too good, perhaps UAW members should open brokerage accounts and buy shares.
The strike is a joke only three plants purely symbolic like this crap coming out of Biden’s mouth.
The UAW isn’t going to hurt the economy and Biden with an all-out strike.
A fair share is defined in the bargaining process, anyone outside of the two parties involved saying what’s a fair share is foolish.
The logic pretzel the Democrats create is implementing economic policies that cause inflation.
The Union Workers pay is buying less and less because of that inflation.
The see big profits by the companies.
They also see the executives passing out big pay increases and bonuses to each other while they are living with a old contract that buys less and less due to the inflation.
They see UPS and others settling with their unions on nice new contracts.
They also see their jobs getting threatened by making cars that lose money while cutting back on cars that make money, like Ford and the F-150 and SUVs versus the money pit called EVs.
It’s the perfect storm of bad policies by the Democrats and foolish management which is creating this situation.
If you study the situation, it was inevitable a strike would happen, the big issue now is who is going to cave first
Profits are for owners. Workers should get paid based on the value of what they do, not on some arbitrary whim. Union employees need to come to grips with the fact their leadership and the democrats are mostly concerned with the income stream provided by their dues which funds those huge salaries, exorbitant perks, and campaign cash. Unions are anachronisms which exist to provide lucre for their executives and the democrat party.
