Russia’s defense minister on Wednesday boasted about the country’s military prowess on the battlefield in Ukraine—and then shrugged when asked if Moscow would win. “The troops are engaged in maintaining an active defense in the necessary and indispensable areas. We are firmly defending what we need to defend right now. But the main task is to smash [Ukrainian] equipment,” Sergei Shoigu told a reporter on state-controlled TV. He appeared caught off guard when the reporter concluded the interview with the question, “Will we win?” Staring off into the distance for a long pause, Shoigu shrugged before saying simply, “We have no other option.” Not exactly a vote of confidence, it would appear.

It’s not Russia’s mission to win. Just keep the territory they have and blow up as many NATO vehicles and Ukrainian soldiers as they can.
He probably thought he was asked, Will Ukraine survive?
They’re already winning because they’ve got this government destroying our economy, and bankrupting this country for a proxy war in corrupt Ukraine, that isn’t of any national security interest to us.

He is realistic. Anything can happen in a war. No outcome is guaranteed.
Putin obviously thought otherwise.
The only winners will be the crooked politicians stealing aid and the arms dealers.

He knows that Russia can't win. He knows that Putin is a backstabber. He controls the armed forces. We'll see how long Shoigu decides to tolerate the President.
For the sake of diplomacy he can’t directly say that Russia will win.
This is good news, we can stop giving Ukraine billions and military equipment then, right?
Why isn't Ukraine sealing their victory? What are they waiting for?

Honestly, this war has exposed just how corrupt, sinister, and god-awful our foreign policy has been for decades. This nation is always at war; if we're not at war, then we're covertly helping to topple a duly-elected government of another nation or meddling in their internal affairs.
And then their people, usually Sub-Saharan Africans or Middle Eastern Muslims, get displaced and move to majority-white nations to wreak havoc on us.
It's so obvious what's going on here, yet the war whores here just have this hardon at seeing Putin defeated.

Putin’s objective? Defend his land bridge to Crimea. Then he can force a cease fire.
