When I first covered the ARK Zero electric microcar, its specs and pricing sounded too good be true. “I’ll believe it when I see it,” I quipped. Well I guess now I have to believe it, as the company says it has begun making deliveries and shared its first on-road photos.
According to the company, initial deliveries of the ultra-budget vehicle have begun in the UK and France.
Priced at just £5,995 (approximately US $7,500), the UK-based ARK Zero is likely the most affordable electric microcar in the west.
Technically classified as a quadricycle, it is designed to fulfill the car needs of urban dwellers, as long as they don’t need to go too fast or carry more than two people.
The small-statured four-wheeler has a top speed of 28 mph (45 km/h) and an understated 2.2 kW (3 horsepower) electric motor. It’s the same style of rear axle-mounted electric motor used on Chinese micro-cars like my cute little Minghong or my electric mini-truck.
The seating looks like a tandem setup with a pair of seats placed one behind the other, fighter pilot style.
The specs aren’t exactly mind-blowing, but that’s likely because the Ark Zero appears to be designed to meet the lower-performance L6e category of quadricycles.
As an electric vehicle, owners will be able to take advantage of reduced maintenance costs and lower fuel bills, as CEO Yilmaz Bora explained.

Now I understand this is NOT for most FReepers. Not at all. Just no.
No, no, no.
NO!
But it is EXACTLY what I want.
(And I believe it will carry two adults, and one kid) And no tarrifs. Because it will be made right here.
Perfect.

Yes.
Lots of people think Vietnam is about the war.
Two generations now, people here just want to work.
And get married. Though you really need to be careful. Do NOT get with a girl in a bar.
Other than that, be careful.
But it is a nice place, I think.
But as to the car -- meh. Our good old mechanic here keeps my diesel truck running in tiptop shape, and the sedan as well. No news vehicles for us. Not even....
(Please note, lots of nice couples meet in bars)
Just saying, go-forward use common sense.
😎
With living out in the country and at least 40 min. to the nearest grocery store...we shop for at least two weeks at a time and keep our chest freezer full (and non-perishables in the pantry). How in the ever-living he** would we do our shopping? It would take us twice as long to get to town if the charge would last that long and how much longer in town would we have to be in order to recharge to get home?? It’s a golf cart for goodness sake! That’s not only ridiculous it is totally unsafe on the road!!
A word of clarification. A lot of people think "insert any national entity and any government" represents the "people."
We lived as legal residents in Germany for decades, and I have worked and lived in twelve countries for extended periods. I find lovely people and some less than lovely and only a small percentage of jackasses wherever. We now retired and back in the state. More lovely people and some less than lovely and only a small percentage of jackasses, as elsewhere. For this, I reject the "evil" tag laid on any people, per se.
Our "Vietnamese" family have been back "home" quite a number of times, but still come back to their "new" home. Just as I called a number of places "home" and then went home again. You might too. Everywhere I have traveled and worked, I have found such beauty in the differences and similarities that I think the world and its people have much to offer.
Well said.
Interesting. Going the Smartcar one better.
The problem is this vehicle is designed for those who don’t want vehicles, ie, the young urban professional who has no kids and takes public transportation everywhere. IOW, these is a product designed to fail.
Well, one good point is that after the fire dies down, you can strap it to your back and walk back home
That’s my line when I buy lottery tickets... When the girl clerk says something like “don’t forget I was the one who sold you those!”
I’d say “ok!! But I’m cheap!! I’ll buy you a used Yugo!!” Usually good for a laugh from those standing in line behind me!
But that’s a little out dates now!! Gonna have to think of a new one!!
Yep...agreed. If it did 45mph that’d be different. I’d use it for around town.
Is that the Inferno or the non-Inferno one?
Where are you driving where the speed limit is under 30 MPH?
Where's Rush when you need him...
We have had those in the US for years. It is called a golf cart.
“The small-statured four-wheeler has a top speed of 28 mph”
I openly admit I am not remotely the target market for this vehicle, but with a top speed of under 30 MPH, its going to be a road hazard in all but the most congested urban cores.
Basically the entire country is people riding bikes.
There are highways, but the country is relatively small but VERY crowded, sort of the exact opposite of America.
It has 2/28 AC.
Exactly!
Plus when it catches on fire you get to cut out the costs of cremation...
Bicyclists will be yelling at you to get out of their way.
