Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm went on a highly choreographed electric vehicle tour of several southern states Despite careful planning, the motorcade ran into a number of issues, including an incident during which a Georgia family called the cops on department staff Granholm has pushed hard for federal commitment to expansion of EV infrastructure, but her trip suggests there's still much work to be done
The sheriff's office was not ultimately able to do anything because it's not illegal for a non-EV to claim a charging spot, at least not in Georgia.
But the optics were bad and the Energy Department staffers scrambled to fix the situation by redirecting several vehicles so Granholm and the family's cars were able to charge simultaneously.
A family was forced to call the cops after Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm's staff blocked an EV charging station in Georgia while promoting green energy.
Granholm's four-day trip from North Carolina to Tennessee was designed to 'draw attention to the billions of dollars the White House is pouring into green energy and clean cars,' according to an NPR story about the drive.
But one issue they were forced to contend with was the lack of charging stations across the country for electric vehicles to be a reliable choice of transport.
Granholm's staff ran into trouble outside of Augusta, Georgia, when a family in an electric vehicle confronted them because they were blocking off a spot at an electric vehicle charging station with a gas-powered car.
According to Camila Domonoske, who wrote the NPR piece, 'an Energy Department staffer tried parking a nonelectric vehicle by one of those working chargers to reserve a spot for the approaching secretary of energy.'
'That did not go down well: a regular gas-powered car blocking the only free spot for a charger?' she continued.

Bwahaahahaha
Charger hog. Should be a crime. What happens when the EV is charged and the vehicle owner fails to move out? Many more calls to the cops on the way. Or fights.
sending this idiot out who knows nothing to promote a scam is funny
I predict EV charging stations will become as bad as public boat ramps on holiday weekends.
Her staff blocked access using a gas powered vehicle, not an EV. LOL
EVs remain the answer to a stupid question.
I feel for the family. I would only hope they voted for the degenerates currently destroying America. I would only hope it would be a wake up call.
EVs are not an answer. EVs are a scam.
Correct.
Economists only know how to make two things: Shortages and surpluses. We have a surplus of electric vehicles (because of government subsidies) and a shortage of charging stations. Tax electric vehicles to pay for more charging stations! Let charging stations “gouge” customers by charging so much that many will sprout up, or because customers avoid them, and charge at home.
They aren’t pushing rechargeable cars to replace gasoline and diesel. This is the real tragedy.
They know damn well EVs will not scale and will not do or be anything like they are trying to portray. The only reasonable conclusion is there won’t be any cars or personal transportation of any kind, that’s what it looks like. I wish more people understood this.
It might not be illegal to block an EV charging station with an ICE vehicle, but it is certainly bad manners. Where do those people think they are, New Jersey?
Actually, some charging stations allow30-minute “grace period”after a vehicle hits about 80% charge. After that the meter starts running again at a much higher rate. Since every charge is linked to either a pre-paid account or a credit card, the parking can become very expensive, very quickly.
The caveat to that is who owns the charging station. If it’s on a dealer’s lot, you can just about guarantee someone will park an ICE vehicle blocking the charging station.
It is the height of hypocrisy the Energy Secretary had to send a staffer to block the charging station to ensure she’d be able to charge her car for her phony photo-op trip. She was worthless as our governor and even more so at the Federal level.
that there is funny
good for them
granholm and company are all gaslighters
EVs are a trap
the real goal is to destroy private transportation
it will be walk bike bus for the masses
there is no law against parking in a charging spot in Georgia
Ain’t Communism wonderful.
Another story that will never make it onto the Corporate News.
I don’t see why EVs must somehow be the answer for cross country transportation. Millions of cars crammed into city rush hour commutes twice a day? Sure. EVs would be great. Charge them at home. Attempting to replace the gasoline infrastructure with electricity would be silly as well as impossible.
This obviously proves that the government needs to subsidize thousands of charging stations! /sarc
