With four months until the GOP caucuses, presidential hopefuls are ramping up their campaigns in the Hawkeye state.
More than half a dozen candidates will be in Des Moines this weekend for a presidential town hall.
Republican presidential candidates are taking every chance they can to campaign in Iowa, joining in on many Iowa traditions like the Cy-Hawk game and the Iowa State Fair.
Along with door knocking, these events are an opportunity to commit Iowans to caucus for the candidates; but many may be keeping an open mind.
There have been times when people will kind of go into a caucus and say, 'well I'm still kinda torn between two people,' and they talk to a few more people, hear some speeches on caucus night, and then whatever names they want on the ballot at the point," Tim Hagle a political science professor at the University of Iowa said.
During the Cy-Hawk game, more than 2,250 Iowans pledged to caucus for former President Donald Trump. According to his campaign, that brings the frontrunner's total to more than 27,000.
"If you have Donald Trump winning the Iowa caucuses by a large margin, [he'd] probably would win New Hampshire to because he did win New Hampshire in 2016, even though he didn't in Iowa," Hagle said. "That I think it would be hard to stop him."
Other candidates are still working hard to gain support, like Tim Scott, who asked Iowans to caucus for him during the first presidential debate.
Ron DeSantis is gaining traction, and reports more than 12,000 Iowans have pledged to caucus for him.
Folks like DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Ramaswamy and Tim Scott and so forth, they need to do very well and even if they don't necessarily win Iowa, New Hampshire they gotta become fairly close to be seen as competitive," Hagle said.
Almost 200,000 Iowans participated in the 2016 Iowa caucuses, but even with current commitments, anything can happen come January 15th.
"Is Trump support really going to be there on caucus night?" Hagle questioned. "Are people really gonna support him because they want him to be the nominee, as opposed to just want to support him in his fight against what they see as political prosecution, so we don't know if people are gonna sort of change their mind when it comes to caucus night."
Meatball goin’ nowhere.
Besides, Meatball clearly doesn't fit for DeSantis and only highlights his intelligence, effectiveness, and success. The last laugh will be on you.
OK sorry
He’s dead, Jim.
meatball made a huge mistake turning on trump and siding with the bush family hangers on.
Meatball was the heir apparent, but has thrown it all away.
“meatball made a huge mistake turning on trump and siding with the bush family hangers on.
Meatball was the heir apparent, but has thrown it all away.”
Exactly. Having the likes of Paul Ryan pushing you for President is not a feather in your hat as far as I am concerned.
Governor DeSantis is the other way around. Not charismatic, but effectively lead Florida during Hurricane Idalia. Also seems to be developing a ground game with a plan to ensure that there's election integrity.
"The reality is that my father has the best campaign operation in Iowa he’s ever had.
'He’s leading the state by 37%, the campaign has Captains in all 99 counties, over 1,000 precinct captains, they’ve collected 25,000 caucus pledge cards (including 10,000 at the State Fair), staffed more than 100 parades, and they’ve launched an impressive Farmers for Trump Coalition with 100+ members.
"Meanwhile the Ron DeSanctimonious campaign is in a complete free-fall, fighting with their SuperPAC and finishing third in poll after poll.
Oh bull....
The desantis supporters on this board do all sorts of character assassinations, false allegations and smears...
Calling desanctimonious names doesn’t even compare to what the desantis supporters do towards Trump.
When will Trump need to announce his VP pick? Anyone know?
You are correct. The name calling by Trump in my opinion is small stuff compared to the dirty backstabbing political BS Uni Party Rinos have thrown at him.
As for anti Trump people here on FR most of the really sick and twisted ones aren’t posting anymore that I’ve seen. I think they were either bots or very unhinged personalities to begin with. Some that still post at least don’t try to make excuses for the Rinos in their party. Just wish they would expand the same amount of energy openly against Rinos as they do against Trump.
RE: Iowans are starting to pledge their loyalty to candidates.
Somewhere there is a fellow in Iowa clearing his throat and saying “I pledge allegiance to Mike Pence and the RINO tradition of disloyalty for which he stands. His totally repressed and secretive side will carry him to greatness.”
>> Look, we are polite about Trump
a) No, “you’re” not.
b) Who the hell is “we”??? You and that mouse of yours?
Seems that de santis is not listening to Steve Cortez who signed on a few weeks ago as advisor.
My Prediction. If Trump wins the Primary in Iowa he will be assassinated, by hook or my crook. He will have a little accident—Mark my words.
Personally I’d prefer all these damned snewz fraudcasters would all go leap into a burning volcano.
Let’s get this damned Vote done before the demonratcommieblmantifaterrorscumfeminazipedophilegoatrapers can finish organizing the next attempt at steal2.
I think America is ready to light this candle.
You’re obviously being paid by his campaign. Everyone on this forum knows it.
As I have already written, no I am not. I have no affiliation with any party, campaign, pac, etc. Just a private citizen, registered republican, and veteran writing my two cents.
Tim Hagle a political science professor( MEANING NOTHING) is really going To be surprised ,come caucus night. Trump is the only one that cares for the country and it’s people. THE ONLY ONE!!!
