The IRS announced it will start targeting thousands of uber-wealthy tax cheats and make them poney up hundreds of millions of dollars in the coming months.
The federal agency said it plans to aggressively hunt down 1,600 millionaires and 75 large business partnerships that routinely “cut corners” on their taxes.

to be honest though, there was a time that “country-club” Bush league republicans were the problem. I've come to learn that now.

The tax rules in this country are so complicated no one could be in complete compliance. They can target and convict anyone they want. The IRS rarely seeks to convict anyone. They just assess the "back taxes" they say you should have paid, plus penalties and interest.
As long as you pay what they say you owe, they're happy.
Only in rare cases, where there's outright criminal fraud, or an innocent political target, does the IRS seek a conviction.

We had the chance to change the tax code from 2017 to 2019 but the guy in charge had no interest. I wonder how he thinks now.

Sounds good and scary but where’s the proof they have hired all those 87,000 new agents? I’d be surprised if they hired 87 new agents. Nobody wants to work in this country unless they can do it in front of a laptop at home.
Personally I have my doubts as to how much of the IRS is even in operation. The IRS building in DC is empty/abandoned.

McCarthy or the House has no power to change existing laws. The house only controls NEW legislation for spending.

These IRS agents are not in the same league as experienced, professional CPAs. The two guys I work for have 30+ years of tax experience. The due diligence we perform on each return is substantial.
I've never worked on such complicated returns, although I converted a public company's tax return. That was an 8 month project, as they had 14 subsidiaries to include in their consolidated return.
We're up to 150 partnership returns, and more are coming as we continue to develop properties. We're part of that mega development in Midlothian.

Seeing what constitutes the rich these days, I say “Eff the Rich!”
That's what they're counting on, go after unpopular targets first and no one will object, but once the procedure is in place there will be "mission creep".
No one is 100% safe from this.
Except the Ultra Rich with lots of Influence.

Bullcrap.... The new IRS budget isn’t to go after big earners. It is for everyone. Just this year I have gotten invoices for the past 5 years of taxes they say I owe. No one to call, no one to contact, just a bill. I have talked to my accountant and all he can say is “you better pay it now before they consider it a felony and we can refile after.” I am not a big earner or ultra wealthy. Several self employed friends are all in the same boat. The IRS is shaking down everyone with bogus claims.
