Texas heat brings the state's power grid closest it has been to outages since 2021 winter storm

HOUSTON (AP) — Texas’ power grid manager on Thursday again asked residents to cut their electricity use as the state endures another stretch of sizzling summer heat. The request carried fresh urgency, coming the day after the system was pushed to the brink of outages for the first time since a deadly winter blackout in 2021

The request by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which serves most of the state’s 30 million residents, came a day after low energy reserves prompted the grid operator to issue a level 2 energy emergency alert. Operating reserves fell as demand surged amid the heat, and power from wind and solar energy sources proved insufficient, according to ERCOT.

Huh so stagnant air and abundant sunshine, is not good enough for Texas's energy needs.

Former Gov. Perry's energy policies come to fruition.

Dollars to doughnuts, if you’re in Texas, your woke nature justice warrior next door will have their A/C cranked tomorrow.

It’s the same stupidity as California.

The claimed ideology behind it maybe different, but the outcome is exactly the same.

(That’s almost the definition of the UniPart - supposed different ideology, but same results)

Today should be OK, but tomorrow is going to be a challenge. Forecast to be even hotter. 107 in Dallas, 108 in Austin, 102 in Houston. Thankfully much cooler next week.

It would be a pretty big disaster for Republicans if the grid were to fail again. A very bad look.

Well that happens when politicians close down reliable fossil fuel plants, with pie in the sky wind mills and solar panels.

A question, with abundant sunshine, how does solar fail?

I can understand a week of of no wind.

“if the grid were to fail “

Is there a hamster shortage in Texas?

Maybe they could put some of those ground hog things they have in big wheels ... or get all the illegals to wave fans back and forth at the same time .. get some wind blowing for the windmills.
See there is always a solution ...

Such total BS.....too bad ERCOT depends on windmills and solar, these days.

How’d that work out during the last, statewide freeze????

From what I’m seeing the most dangerous time is right around sundown when solar drops off but it’s still really hot.

But just remember, gotta have electric stove, car, heat, etc despite there not being enough capacity or generation to support everything electrified.
Gubbermint says so.

Its always so hot in Texas and if we get fall weather we all run outside and make a fun roasting marshmallows and wieners! LOL!

I always hated raking leaves this time of the year...it was like raking up corn flakes in the yard! :)

I surmise that if many Arizonans have to run their a/cs at night in order to sleep, then many Texasans do too.

It’s miserable in Texas right now. Never ending summer....111 today with the humidity factor. Got to be honest......homeless and drugged out crazies on the streets...California sounds pretty good right now. This sucks ......this heat is unbearable.
