Sept 6 (Reuters) - The Pentagon on Wednesday announced a new security assistance package worth up to $175 million for Ukraine, including depleted uranium ammunition for Abrams tanks, the first time the U.S. is sending the controversial armor-piercing munitions to Kyiv.
Reuters was first to report last week that the rounds, which could help destroy Russian tanks, would form part of a new military aid package for Ukraine, which Russian forces invaded in February 2022.

LOL. I guess it’s “controversial” because it has the word “uranium” in it, like we’re sending them nukes.
These are armor piercing rounds for tanks. I guess tanks should only use the paintball stuff.
WW III in 3..2..1
Would YOU like to have depleted Uranium used in YOUR neighborhood? Or you among the OTHER-PEOPLE’S-MONEY, OTHER-PEOPLE’S-BLOOD, OTHER-PEOPLE’S-NEIGHBORHOOD crowd?
And, yes, I have a good understanding of depleted uranium rounds.
I would LOVE to have DU rounds for my guns and would happily fire them at enemies in my neighborhood.
Maybe you need to do some research into what they mean by “depleted”.
We need to send Ukraine a depleted Nuland-Sullivan, sans credit cards and laptops. No exit visa allowed once they are there. Single entry only.
If Joe Biden cared about Ukraine, he would immediately conscript the Children, Grand Children. Nieces and Nephews between the age of 17-35 of EVERY ELECTED OFFICIAL IN AMERICA and send them to the Front Lines in Ukraine. It would be over in hours
And depleted uranium rounds cost over $10,000 each (at least they used to) but you likely consider them in the OTHER-PEOPLE’S-MONEY bucket so no cost to you.
We have done these depleted uranium threads many times over the months, Britain was the first to send them this ammunition.
As Colonel Macgregor agrees, the scare stories aren’t true.
Exactly what I thought when I saw it. I can’t imagine how depleted uranium can be controversial. But then, it’s Reuters...
We eat off of depleted uranium plates. Washes up nicely.
“Escalation, escalation, escalation. Payback’s going to be a bummer for all of us.”
Oh, stop with the sensationalism. Russia has DU ordnance, as well. Several countries have them. And aside from Putin’s previous hyperbole, there is not a nuclear weapon component to them.
I am dead set against sending money or arms to Ukraine, including depleted uranium rounds. That said, this “controversy” is simply stupid.
Like you said, because it has the word “uranium” in it which makes ignorant people bug out.
“OMG, THEY CAN MAKE BOMBS OUT OF THEM, OR THEY WILL CAUSE CANCER IN UKRAINIAN CHILDREN!”
Like so much else surrounding any issues with Ukraine, people lose their minds over it.
Let no one wonder if there is any honor left in this country.
It’s taxpayer money so it’s partly mine.
What I consider a waste is socialist programs. That’s what I have a problem with in regards to money.
Blowing away russkies is another matter.
Yep. Its lead. Heavy lead. Thats all.
Heck, they’re no worse than cluster bombs, right? Being fired out of Abrams no less! There’s no line you’re not willing to cross in your defense of Uke corruption.

The plates are too expensive for my household. But we do keep a plentiful supply of depleted uranium dust and sprinkle it on our food as well as mix it in with our iced sweet tea.
We caught one of our kids snorting it but he stopped when he found he couldn’t get a high from it.
