Correction:
Our legislature here in California could pass for something
from the old Soviet Union.
Since 1959, it has been under Democrat control almost
exclusively. In 1995/1996 it had a slim Republican majority
[41/39, corrected for accuracy] in the Assembly only.
In 1968 there was a 2020 match-up in the Senate only. This
happened again in 1973/1974.
In 1969/1970 the Republicans held another 41/39 majority.
So for the last 74 years, the Democrats have had the clear
majority for all but three years in the Senate, and two
years in the assembly.
In the 1995/1996 Assembly term, Willie Brown made political
moves that left the Republicans more or less powerless.
Right now there isn’t one single Republican leading a
statewide seat in California’s government. It’s been like
that for over 15 years as far as I can remember.

And yet CA for the majority of that time voted Republican (And still does if not for the cheating) So it looks like the senate and assembly has always had some suspicious poo-poo going on
