I used to be a commercial real estate agent in Seattle. When I saw what was going on with downtown office space and Covid, I told my workmates that this will be VERY bad for the city and real estate investors/developers. It's taken a surprisingly long time, but the chickens are finally coming home to roost.
This is happening all over the country. Cities are getting their tax base hammered.
On a related note, when I started working from home, I changed my "office location" so I no longer had to pay county income tax. I'm sure a lot of LG&E and Humana employees did the same thing. Humana is to Louisville, what Boeing was to Seattle back in the day.
I absolutely love the idea of enhancing hometowns over bolstering liberal “utopias.”
Make the cities suffer every loss they encouraged.
