With his calm voice and authoritative demeanor, Col. Douglas Macgregor gives the initial impression of a knowledgeable and dispassionate observer/analyst. Since the beginning of 2022, the Colonel, with an impeccable ‘American hero’ background has become the “go-to” analyst for many in the American conservative media, including Tucker Carlson.
Carlson is a top professional and no doubt, has a decent-size crew of researchers even when not on Fox. Given these resources, it's inexplicable that he is charmed by Macgregor, who has not put a foot right in his analysis and predictions since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and actually, even prior to that.
Clearly, Macgregor’s predictions attract those who wish them to come true.
Let’s examine Macgregor’s analysis and predictions in the real world, where the war is close to entering its third year and where Ukraine is on the offensive, however slow, costly and uncertain.
Two months before Putin ordered the Russian troops over the borders of Ukraine with Russia and Belarus, Macgregor wrote in The National Interest predicting that the “Russian ground forces would [probably] reach their operational objectives along the Dnieper River in as little” as three days. Perhaps he was listening to the Russian State TV talk-show hosts’ disastrous bravado that became a popular Ukrainian meme of “Kyiv in three days,” though as far as I know, Macgregor doesn’t speak Russian.
On February 27, 2022, three days after the start of the war he said on Fox News (0’37”): “...the battle in Eastern Ukraine is really almost over. All the Ukrainian troops are being largely surrounded and cut off...the Russians will ultimately annihilate them.”
In early March 2002, Macgregor explained why his previous prophesy of “three days” did not happen, allowing the Russians ten more days.

Ok fair enough to compare MacGregor’s predictions to what actually happened. Let’s do the same for Ben Hodges and Mark Hertling….
More press-ganging for the fourth Ukrainian army occurring now.
MORAL: Always take the predictions of so-called experts, pundits and prognosticators with a grain of salt.
OK, what’s your prediction? I’ll take note of it and return to this thread in 6 months.
MacGregor is the worst analyst for the Ukraine war. Except for all the rest.
And what is Russia doing now that it's run out of Buryats and convicts? Grabbing Cubans and African students foolish enough to stay in the Muscovite despotism.
According to Henny Bodges, the Ukies are just mopping up the last resistance at Sevastopol in Crimea...
The Upid Stukies are still trying to "regain territory", and playing right into the hands of the Russians.
Macgregor thought it was going to be a conventional war between the Ukraine and Russia. In that scenario, Russia would quickly prevail.
But it became a proxy war between NATO and Russia. The US and other countries contributed weapons, personelle to run those weapons etc. and burned up Ukrainian ground troops in the proxy war.
Then Macgregor and others thought that Zelensky would do as leaders usually do, and try to preserve enough people and infrastructure to continue and rebuild after the war. Russia was counting on this too.
But steadily the Russians removed sustainability from the Urkaine, each time thinking ‘Now Zelensky must negotiate’. Zelensky wanted to negotiate and the West told him ‘No.’
So the war continued well past having a Ukraine once negotions end - non of this was conventional warfare. The NATO proxy war is willing to burn up all civilian infrastructure and men, conscripting the handicapped, mentally disturbed and men in their 50’s, to fight. Zelensky has told the population, soon all will have to fight sooner or later.
So Macgregor and others did not count on the Ukrainian population and infrastructure being ignored by NATO. NATO doesn’t have ‘flesh in the game’ so NATO will throw all into the fire.
Apart from his false belief that someone would want the Ukraine to exist after the war, Macgregor’s information has been good, his reads on Zelensky and the various commanders, Putin etc. have been good. But this is likely the first modern conspicuous example of a country and its people used as cannon fodder on behalf of NATO.
LOL - "draft dodgers", exactly what the Media told you to quack.
I wondered what that story was about.
Cover for the "harsh measures" about to come in the European Union for the hapless cannon fodder that was smart enough to escape in the first place.
No worries - Denys Davydov is safe in Luzern, Switzerland.

The problem with MacGregor isn’t that he’s wrong once in while, it’s that the Leftists (Ukraine War supporters) CANNOT CONTROL what he says.
The way to understand the above is to look at Nordstream, where it was OBVIOUS to the entire world that the West, possibly along with Ukraine, blew it up, yet the CONTROLLED ANALYSTS (the ones we see on network news) all said it was the Russians blowing up their own pipeline (LOL). Also look at the many, many, many, times we hear that “Russia is running out of missiles”...just to see a huge barrage by Russia a day or two later.
Yet are ANY of the Controlled Analysts fired or even criticized for being wrong so often...nope, because they are saying exactly what they’re PAID to say.
Like Tucker, no one pays MacGregor, so Conservatives (people who want the Ukraine War to end) are able to listen to a voice that is NOT simply parroting Biden Administration talking points and therefore is free to talk the truth.
Macgregor’s specific predictions have been wrong in the main, but his overall assessment of the the war itself has been spot on. Ukraine is losing and cannot win. This proxy war must end sooner rather than later. It is weakening the US and its allies.
Your posts are getting better and better!
Two articles, the first being 28 July and this one. Looking to search engines to provide some additional information about this writer, one comes up with nothing. The Asher Pat of Facebook is certainly not our anonymous writer.
American Thinker normally has some information, even with those using a nom de plume. This seems most irregular. A message of inquiry to Lifson is in order.
As to MacGregor, he is among the many who appear and opine. His views differ from others. As do Freepers disagree, one with another. So the point of the article -- an opinion piece -- is unclear from the larger scheme of American Thinker articles.
The only way you’ll know the truth is when it’s over. The cheerleader side is the one who’s always winning.
PREDICTIONS. ONE OF THREE OUTCOMES WILL HAPPEN !. The war will not end until NATO falls apart, The Democrats are pulled from power or Depression pulls the whole world into a economic mess. This could be ten to fifteen years in the future. Then the fighting will just stop. 2. Zelensky is pulled from power and his replacement will make a deal with Putin—six months from now. 3. Russia goes all in and takes Kiev and rolls over the Nation and imposes peace with their own puppet in charge. Maybe another year.
Plenty of cheerleaders, here, on FR.
He's been wrong about everything, but his fans are enamored by the "BUT" monkey on his shoulder.
