WASHINGTON, Sept 5 (Reuters) - A former chairman of the right-wing Proud Boys group was sentenced on Tuesday to 22 years in prison for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump trying to overturn the former president's election defeat.
Enrique Tarrio was convicted of charges, including seditious conspiracy, for his role in planning the storming of the Capitol, when thousands of supporters of the Republican then-U.S. president violently tried to stop Congress from certifying the results of an election that Trump falsely claimed had widespread fraud.
Federal prosecutors had asked U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly to impose a 33-year prison sentence on Tarrio, who was not present at the Capitol on the day of the violence because another judge had ordered him to stay out of Washington. Prosecutors said he helped direct the attack from Baltimore.
Tarrio's attorneys had asked for a substantially shorter sentence.
Kelly last week sentenced another far-right Proud Boys leader, Ethan Nordean, to 18 years, less than the 27 years prosecutors had sought. Oath Keepers militia founder Stewart Rhodes in May was also sentenced to 18 years. Nordean and Rhodes had previously been tied for the longest sentence handed down in the case.
More than 1,100 people have been arrested on charges related to the Capitol assault, and of those at least 630 have pleaded guilty and at least 110 have been convicted at trial. Five people, including a police officer, died during or shortly after the riot and more than 140 police officers were injured. The Capitol suffered millions of dollars in damage.

Seriously, here are the Tarrio charges:
18 USC 2384, 18 USC 1512(k), 18 USC 1512 (e)(2)2, 18 USC 372, 18 USC 231 (a) (3) 2, 18 USC 1361 (2), and 18 USC 111 (a)(1).
I assume you have read the charges and counts in detail and therefore can express your opinion based on the facts of the case rather than just one-line insults, however, in light of these, for example, here is my question:
Take one of these you disagree with and think the Government case has holes in and is a trumped up charge without evidence. For example, I imagine you object to "Obstruction of an Official Proceeding and Aiding and Abetting" ?? I would like to hear a spirited opposition to this charge with some details, you can even repeat the defense arguments if that helps for the sake of FR discussion.
They and no one else either.
That tells you who is making them political prisoners.
The USA now has political prisoners too.
Only an intellectually challenged person would believe that Trump makes ALL the judicial appointments PERSONALLY.
There's a whole apparatus in the US Senate to take care of that.
But you continue believing your little fantasies about Trump.
Q: If the LIBS somehow won the election of 2028, and we were then have a transfer of executive power, would you support him staying in office past 2029, declaring martial law, suspending that portion of the Constitution, and continuing his administration, or say having his Vice President sworn in?
Once the commies are out of power, I think T. Kelly needs a quick trial and 22 years in a prison. He can be charged with trespassing.
Apparently he said at the sentencing “my candidate lost”, so his prospective pardon status may be in jeopardy.
Maybe you are confusing them with the Oath Keepers?
Their initiation includes naming breakfast cereals while being gently pummeled. I think you need to name five, in other words it's a light hearted parody of actual street gangs and their "blood in, blood out" rules.
You could learn about them if you wanted to. The founder also founded Vox media, he had to quit the PBs art some point to maintain his vanishing career.
Do you frequently assert false facts about things on Free Republic?
Interesting question. I am not much for hypothetical questions. There is enough uncertainty dealing with reality.
Who has done better?
The other point is that deals were made. So many judges acceptable to the left for so many confirmations of Trump’s actual choices.
It’s a trump judge who gave the sentence. The president and the republican senators put in on the court. What’s to complain about except for the poor pick.
Trump could have said no thanks.
It’s amazing how every president prior took credit for their judges and often used the buck stops here. Until one came along and didn’t make a single decision. Weird.
No doubt if the other side get their way.
And no parole or early release in federal prison.
But not Ray Epps or Megaphone Commander who directed people into the trap that Pelosi helped engineer. Why were the Capital Doors opened from the inside to let people in? Answer: It was a setup for political reasons.
A travesty.
