I think Untied Airlines is one of those that pilots don’t get paid until wheels up meaning the time spent at the gate plus taxi time right up until cleared for T/O their clock doesn’t start. Then again not sure about UAL.

I am glad I am not booked on United. It would have saved me a few hundred dollars to go with United but I had two very bad experiences on that airline and will never board one of their planes again. Short flights, like an hour or so may be okay but don’t stow any luggage. Long trips, like 14 hours across the Pacific-no way. It is masochistic if one has done it before.

The airlines might claim "security," but I think they mostly want to sell the same seat twice.

Been in on it since the start.
