Germans question value of working after new welfare increases - survey

More than half of Germans believe work is not worthwhile after the government's planned increase in welfare payments and child benefits, a survey showed on Tuesday.

The government said it was raising benefits, first introduced in 2005, to fight child poverty and help citizens cope with inflation, but added it did not want to deter people from work altogether.

Welfare payments, dubbed "citizens' money", for more than 5.5 million jobless in Germany will rise to 563 euros ($605.06)from 502 euros per month for single people from next year.

Rent and health insurance costs are also covered by the government for those receiving the benefits.

The increase coincides with a large rise in support for parents on a low income from 2025. They will receive up to 636 euros per month for their first child and another 530 euros for every other child. The sum is currently fixed at 250 euros per month per child.

With a minimum wage of around 12.4 euros per hour or 1,450 euros net income per month, some 52% of Germans have the impression that it's not worth working as those in fulltime employment on a minimum wage don't earn significantly more than those living off welfare, a survey by pollster INSA published by Bild newspaper showed.

Imagine that!

The German economy cannot support this

The key to Welfare is to have a cash side hustle. Everyone on The Disability here cuts grass or fixes things or details cars.

Stupid white people... can we assume Germans also supply drugs and needles for their addicts?

1,450 vs 530?

and if they work they take taxes out.
then they have to pay rent and utilities.

as opposed to 530, no tax, rent or utilities? Probably other stuff, dry cleaning for work clothes, money to get to and from the job, etc..

I suspect that being on welfare is a larger take home with no work.

They will receive up to 636 euros per month for their first child

The payout to residents of German decent will be minimal.

--- "More than half of Germans believe work is not worthwhile after the government's planned increase in welfare payments and child benefits, a survey showed on Tuesday."

Multiple nations are experiencing similar -- and simple -- phenomena or the same order. Japan, China, and -- oh yeah -- here too.

There was an old joke, attributed to the Soviet Union but I have read it sources to others as well, which said:

Are you working against the government?

"Yes."

But how are you managing to work against the government?

"By not working."

The ideology of the welfare state assumes some will work to fund / supply others fails. It fails as simple arithmetic meeting simple human nature.

"Free" will always undercut even the lowest price for labor or commodity. "Free" will crush markets. "Free" will crush municipal, state and national budgets. "Free" will lure the many, because "...wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."

Perhaps rebating mom’s income tax payments over five years per child would be saner. This would benefit moms who have worked for many years.

Lets say mom is 29 and has worked for eight years.

In 2023, mom would get her 2022 tax back.

In 2024, mom would get her 2021 tax back.

In 2025, mom would get her 2020 tax back.

In 2026, mom would get her 2019 tax back.

In 2027, mom would get her 2018 tax back.

If mom had another child.

In 2028, mom would get her 2017 tax back.

In 2029, mom would get her 2016 tax back.

In 2030, mom would get her 2015 tax back.

In 2031, mom would get nothing back because she had only worked eight years.

The amount rebated in any year might be limited to say 6,000 Euros.

The economic issue (which goes way over the head of most “experts”) is marginal utility.

Is working worth it?

If you are starving without working it is definitely worth it.

If you are homeless without working it is definitely worth it.

If you cannot access health care it is definitely worth it.

etc etc.

However if your basic needs are “free” to you then whether to work can get debatable in a hurry—especially if you are not highly motivated to begin with...

--- "...can we assume Germans also supply drugs and needles for their addicts?"

Not wholly.

"A number of global organized crime groups operate in Germany, engaging in a wide range of crimes such as drug trafficking, property crime, people smuggling and crime associated with the business world, tax and customs offences. Associated crime includes extortion and money laundering.

"Since a large volume of Germany's organized crime threats are orchestrated from other countries and regions, a connected, informed and collaborative response is essential to disrupting them. An international approach is also key to effectively tackling the threat of cybercrime and terrorism in Germany.

"The INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Germany provides national law enforcement with a platform to work with police across the globe in tackling transnational crime."

Source: https://www.interpol.int/en/Who-we-are/Member-countries/Europe/GERMANY

"BERLIN-Several mass brawls broke out over the weekend between members of rival Chechen and Arab drug gangs, indicating an escalation of the power struggle in Berlin's drug scene. The violence was triggered by a violent clash outside a Späti in Wildenbruchstraße in Neukölln, Berliner Zeitung has learned."

Source: https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/en/escalation-between-berlins-rival-drug-gangs-li.117696

But indeed there are Lefty politicians who have been trying the "pink" route with supplying needles and "safe" zones, after the fashion of American Democrats....

The politics of the idiot Left is a catalyst, but the crime is international in scope and source, as it appears at everyone's doorstep. Everywhere. Same structures. Same apologists, who never admit they screwed up. Ideology overwhelms practicality. Over time, this will crumble in on itself, but at great cost to a citizenry.

When I moved to the MO Ozarks in the early 70s they were cutting, splitting and hauling firewood.

One important thing the Founders forgot to put in the constitution is a clause forbidding government to be in the welfare business.

Charity should be strictly private. Delegated compassion is not compassion, it’s stealing.

But, I suppose, you really can’t blame the Founders for this. It was the morons who added the 16th amendment that led to the creation of the welfare state.

“One important thing the Founders forgot to put in the constitution is a clause forbidding government to be in the welfare business.”

It probably never even occurred to them that any government would take such grossly irresponsible actions.

Did they need to add a provision outlawing sacrificing children to the Aztec Gods?

;-)

“Delegated compassion is not compassion, it’s stealing.”

It is actually slavery on the installment plan.

You labor and someone else gets the benefit—and if you don’t like it the whip comes out....

Now that you mention it... YES!

The government HAS taken possession of your children and is sacrificing them to the LGBTQRSTUV gods.

“The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States”

Note the adjective “general” well.
