I thought it was “Lunch bucket Joe,” and that was a self-promoted moniker, probably invented by him in the first place, to further the fairy tale that he was just plain folks.

I never heard “Middle Class Joe.” Are his tales of his past born of deceit or dementia? It’s hard to tell any more
