Georgia Alternate Electors Sought to Emulate JFK–Nixon Challenge in 1960, Transcript Shows

A transcript of the Dec. 14, 2020, meeting of the Georgia alternate electors shows the group convened following the advice of President Donald Trump's legal counsel, seeking to emulate then-Vice President Richard Nixon's challenge of the 1960 election results in Hawaii.

Alternate electors David Shafer, former chair of the Georgia Republican Party, and Cathy Latham were among the 19 indicted for challenging the 2020 election results in Georgia. Prosecutor Fani Willis, the district attorney for Fulton County, Georgia, said these actions constituted a "criminal racketeering enterprise" and conspiracy to defraud citizens of their vote. The 98-page indictment names the electors, President Trump, the attorneys who advised the president and electors in 2020, as well as several others who spoke to election witnesses during the challenge of the vote. In total, the 19 individuals were charged with violating the state's Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, plus 40 other charges.

"We're going to conduct this in accordance with the Constitution of the United States, so we're going to conduct the electorate today similar to what happened in 1960 in Hawaii," said Ray Smith, an attorney, in the Dec. 14, 2020, meeting according to transcripts obtained by The Federalist.

The charges against the alternate electors include allegedly impersonating public officers, arguing that they had not legitimately held the contingent elector roles. Mr. Shafer has argued, in his notice to remove his case to federal court, that he had called the Dec. 14, 2020 meeting to cast the votes specifically to adhere to the legal requirements demanded of an alternate slate of electors. He argued that he sought counsel from the president's legal team, who then explained the legal requirements to the alternate electors. The transcript, which was in Mr. Willis's possession, shows much the same.

"We're conducting this because the contest...

In her Aug. 14 indictment of Trump, Fani Willis alleged
<><>alternate electors for Trump constituted an unlawful “conspiracy” to overturn the 2020 election.
<><>Willis claimed they “unlawfully held themselves out” as “duly elected” presidential electors.
<><>She further insisted these electors intentionally attempted to “mislead.”

However, among the documents Willis has in her possession obtained during her years-long investigation of Republicans was a meeting transcript refuting her allegations which she willfully withheld.

<><>A transcript of the Georgia Republican electors’ Dec. 14, 2020, meeting, obtained by The Federalist, explicitly shows the intent
<><>that casting alternate electors was not to impersonate public officers, as Willis alleged, but to lawfully preserve Trump’s legal challenge to the state’s election results.

These documents specifically noted how the electors were acting as “Republican nominees for Presidential Elector,” not as “duly elected and qualified” presidential electors.

I hope that someone is looking into the affairs of Ms. Fani for impropriety.

“said these actions constituted a “criminal racketeering enterprise” and conspiracy to defraud citizens of their vote”

A complete fabrication and an attempt to criminalize ordinary political activity

Just another strained legal theory concocted by the Harvard Mafia behind Jack “Smith” who isn’t smart enough himself to pull that train

Think Weissman

What happened to the Nixon alternate electors back then?

Did they get treated like the Trump alternate electors were?

I have heard that Nixon elected not to put the country through the ordeal of a disputed election.

That was With respect to Illinois. The Secretary of State of Hawaii certified Nixon the winner in Hawaii. JFK disputed the result and his electors met and cast their vote. A recount revealed JFK won (fancy that!) and it was his electors’ votes that were accepted at the joint session of Congress

I am an Electoral College nerd, and I do not understand what these people (and the ones in Michigan) are supposed to have done.

When you “vote for President” you are actually voting for a group of people appointed by the party the candidate represents. Those people are alternate, or contingent, Electors in case the results are challenged successfully.

Once the Electors meet in the State capital, cast their votes, and those votes receive certificates of ascertainment, all the Electors, certified and alternate, cease to be Electors and return to private life.

So these people in Georgia and Michigan who are charged with a crime - what, specifically, did they do? Did they submit forged certificates of ascertainment? Did they pretend, after December 14, 2020, that they were the validly appointed Electors for Michigan and Georgia, and by pretending, receive money or favors that they were not entitled to?

Or, are they NOT the contingent Electors appointed by the GOP in Michigan and Georgia?

Sounds to me like a description of the Democratic Party...

conspiracy to defraud citizens of their vote

News flash, citizens do not vote for POTUS. States choose electors who vote for POTUS.

“I have heard that Nixon elected not to put the country through the ordeal of a disputed election.”

That was the explanation for public consumption.

Nixon was great at lying.

He knew the Democrats stole it using organized crime.

The problem was that organized crime also helped his career and had their hooks into him.

He knew a challenge would be a fatal error.

Then after JFK took office he stabbed OC in the back and the rest, as they say, is history....

Footnote:

What JFK did to stab OC in the back was to have RFK as Attorney General kidnap New Orleans crime boss Carlos Marcello and dump him from a plane into the Guatemalan jungle.

Marcello amazingly survived and walked back to civilization—eventually to return to New Orleans where he was caught on an FBI wiretap saying about the Kennedy brothers:

“Get that stone out of my shoe.”

P.S. The CIA helped of course.

One other tidbit on Marcello—his “territory” included the states of Louisiana....

and Texas.
