Ukraine says troops breach Russian lines, heavier defences lie ahead

KYIV (Reuters) - Ukraine said on Friday its troops had broken through Russia's first line of defences in several places, though they have then encountered even more heavily-fortified Russian positions.

Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said Kyiv's troops, in a much-vaunted counteroffensive against Russian forces, were advancing in the Zaporizhzhia region. Washington also said on Friday that Kyiv had made notable progress on the southern front in the last 72 hours.

"There is an offensive in several directions and in certain areas. And in some places, in certain areas, this first line was broken through. In some areas it was not broken through, the situation is different there," Maliar said on television.

She added, however, that Kyiv's troops who have been battling to advance through heavily-mined areas for almost three months had now run into major defensive Russian fortifications.

"Where we have already moved to the next line... the enemy is much more fortified there and, in addition to the mining, we also see concrete fortifications, for example, under the main commanding heights, and our armed forces have to overcome a lot of obstacles in order to move forward," she said.

For a couple of weeks Ukraine and our compliant media have been calling it "the MAIN Russian line of defense".

Now they're saying it was just the "first line of defense", and what lies beyond is even more formidable.

“It’s a trap?”

Yep, and they went AROUND Robotyne, rather than continuing to lose men and tanks trying to take it. But there’s a reason why bypassing cities (or towns) is risky business in warfare, as the Ukrainians will soon discover.

And by the way, the idea that Ukraine made it through the first Russian line has been DEBUNKED.

It was criminal sending those poor Ukrainians to attack without any air support.

“It’s a trap?”

If you look at historical Russian tactics you’ll see they are less interested in controlling land and more interested in killing the army.
Read about their “hugging the coast” tactics, which was basically to draw the enemy for the purpose of slaughtering them.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is expected to attend the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in New York this month and take part in a U.N. Security Council meeting on Ukraine, Albania’s U.N. Ambassador Ferit Hoxha told reporters on Friday.“

Sounds like this counteroffensive “success” is timed for the Zelensky visit to the US and the vote in Congress for more money for Ukraine.

They didn’t dismantle the first line. All the propaganda of late is to shout down the objective reports of their failure that made it into media reports of late.
