A 98-year-old man has been charged in Germany with being an accessory to murder as a guard at the Nazis’ Sachsenhausen concentration camp between 1943 and 1945, prosecutors said Friday.
The German citizen, a resident of Main-Kinzig county near Frankfurt, is accused of having “supported the cruel and malicious killing of thousands of prisoners as a member of the SS guard detail,” prosecutors in Giessen said in a statement.
They did not release the suspect’s name.
He is charged with more than 3,300 counts of being an accessory to murder between July 1943 and February 1945.

You forget how indoctrinated these kids were through the Hitler Youth programs.
They were drilled into their skulls full of mush the Nazi program.
And none of it mentioned killing Jews or anyone else. These misguided teenagers believed their fight was to protect the homeland and fight bolshevism.
Go on tube and look for “WW2 stories”
It gives a perspective of the average German soldiers and a few of Soviet soldiers. It’s quite interesting.
There was no opposition opinion allowed and no media that wasn’t piping out the Nazi sludge.
Indeed.
I'm starting a biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Christian dissident in Nazi Germany. Hitler was able to roll over the active Christian movement in Germany, but Bonhoeffer represented what was a large Lutheran and Catholics opposition to the Nazis and the Nazis were always very wary of them - and Germany's Christian conscience. That's why that one comment triggered me: if we expect a prison guard to not "just follow orders," exactly what order or morality do we expect him to follow???
With that Christian conscience gone - the gates of hell await.
Sure is amazing to see how any thread about nazis is flooded with people charging in to “explain” and “contextualize” things and protect the Reich from unfair slander.
I doubt he ever fired his gun. Given he’s charged with 3000 deaths, that’s alot of shooting even for a front line soldier on the Russian front who used human wages to overcome German positions.
The prosecutor is pulling numbers outta his ass to shock the German public.
Given that in the Korean and Vietnam wars, captive soldiers were convicted of war crimes by their captors, guess it would have been alright for them to execute our boys?
Yep...”holier than thou”
Everyone in Germany was required to have a copy of Mein Kampf.
Hitler laid out in Mein Kampf exactly what his plans for the Jews were.
And despite the protestations abounding, anyone working in a camp could volunteer for the front. Like every other military, some seek positions where they sleep indoors on a bed, won’t get shot at, and eat in a mess hall.
What hogwash.
Not one person here has defended what the Reich did.
Just the ridiculous hyperbole of charging a kid for the crimes of a regime in which he had no vote in.
How many of those running gulags have been convicted of crimes? Why only nazis and not communists?
How many were convicted of crimes for Holomodor?
That was ok because they were communists and the communists running USA and Europe today approve of communism.
Oh noooo, of course not. We just get treated to and endless stream of assaholic sophistry parroting nazi apologetics, while saying the obligatory “of course I’m not defending what happened... but”.

Mein Kampf was a wedding present for all weddings under the Reich.
I am sure the newlyweds read it before consummating the marriage.
Lol.
In the book the Jews were called all sort of names—kinda like whites are in the modern US.
But—just like today they do not talk about future concentration camps in the major texts.
Hitler called it the “Jewish problem”.
Today they call it “climate change”.
Nice and vague....
My argument is even stronger—every single Freeper would have pulled the trigger as a guard in those camps—every single one.
The moral grandstanding around here is sickening.
I’ve read Mein Kampf a while back and yes Hitler compared Jews as rats and was obsessed with VD, perhaps he had one?
He definitely believed Jews were ruining “Aryan blood” by interbreeding and by spreading verenral disease
But nowhere does he say anything about exterminating the Jews. Not in his contrived book He wanted to send to Mozambique, of all places.
In the early years of the Nazi era, he even allowed them to leave Germany(but without their wealth) but no other country, including the US, would accept them.
The mass extermination of the Jews wasn’t decided until after the war started when they Nazis captured countries with large populations of Jews and that’s when the huge death camps were created in Poland.
.
You’re being hysterical.
You make it sound like FR is Storm Front, just as the leftist accuse all conservatives.
Your history is correct—and the many Jews who left Germany and moved to other countries—one family at a time—are the proof.
In Germany they varied tremendously. Minor camps could be quite small, probably focused on ad hoc slave labor. Major camps, like Dachau, had overcrowded wooden barracks for the inmates, and were about the size of a suburban US high school.
And while it had cremation ovens, Dachau was not listed as an extermination camp, so most of its victims likely died through disease and starvation.
It’s quite a study.
It’s a bit off-topic, but years ago I read an article about this black African who was studying in Germany. And he got trapped there when WW II broke out.
This guy was, of course, about as non-Aryan as you could get. Yet the Nazis did not bother him in the least. He was able to go to restaurants, walk the streets, etc. with no problems at all.
Weird, huh?
An isolated black person probably wasn’t all that big of a deal to the Nazis, not as if they were were a threat, as they had perceived the Jews to be.
“...this guy was, of course, about as non-Aryan as you could get. Yet the Nazis did not bother him in the least. He was able to go to restaurants, walk the streets, etc. with no problems at all...”
That is the advantage of being a minority of ONE.
