For years, Marc Benioff has turned the quest to help San Francisco into a core part of both his political identity and his company’s mission. Now, the Salesforce CEO appears to be worried the city is too far gone.
The executive told the San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday that the city’s challenges with homelessness and drug use could drive away Dreamforce, his firm’s massive yearly conference in downtown San Francisco.
“If this Dreamforce is impacted by the current situation with homelessness and drug use it may be the last Dreamforce” in San Francisco, Benioff reportedly said in the interview, which took place two weeks before the opening keynote scheduled for Sept. 12. (The Chronicle and SFGATE are both owned by Hearst but have separate newsrooms.)
Benioff reportedly added that this year’s convention will bring 40,000 people to the city and generate $57 million for the downtown economy, saying, “It’s in all of our interests for it to go well.” The majority of Dreamforce’s attendees joined virtually last year — in the pre-pandemic years, city hotels would sell out as attendance shot past 150,000.

“You broke it, you bought it.”
Exactly.
Salesforce deserves to be strapped to the dying carcass of San Francisco and thrown into the bay.
“”If there were any justice in the world, Benioff would be chained to a street corner in the Tenderloin.””
Or, he could be forced to live with the bums in one of the SF hotels. When the Plandemic began, SF had so many empty hotels they decided to ‘house’ the homeless. No doubt the hotels and the Homeless Industrial Complex raked in millions. SF even DELIVERED alcohol and drugs to the bums in the hotels. I can just see it now, Benioff sharing drinks and cigars. I’m sure all of the bums would treat him well /s.
I went to the last Dreamforce before the pandemic. It’s a really big show. Filled the Moscone center, used Giants stadium to show Fleetwood Mac, Beck, and somebody else.
The human detritus on Market Street were really depressing. Those poor people are so obviously used as political pawns.
Says the guy who’s among the most responsible for turning San Fransicko into a nightmare.
Benijagoff.
