Ukrainian forces have penetrated the main Russian defensive line in their country’s southeast, raising hopes of a breakthrough that would reinvigorate the slow-moving counteroffensive.
Ukrainian paratroopers are fighting through entrenched Russian positions on the edge of the village of Verbove, a Ukrainian officer in the area said. Ukrainian forces have also reached the main defensive line to the south of nearby Robotyne village, he said. Ukraine’s military confirmed advances toward Verbove and south of Robotyne, without giving details.
Describing the advance, the Ukrainian officer held up three fingers representing lines of attack through entrenched Russian positions on the western flank of Verbove, an agricultural village of some 1,000 residents before the war. The significance of the advance is that it marks the first time Ukraine has penetrated the main Russian defensive line, an extensive system of minefields, trenches and antitank obstacles covered by artillery.
Ukrainian forces are now working to expand the cracks in the line to create a hole large enough for Western-provided armored vehicles to push through with sufficient logistical support.

The bulge in the front line south of Orikhiv could allow Ukraine to move forward artillery and target Russian positions that were previously out of range.
A breach at Verbove could open a path to the Russian-occupied port cities of Berdyansk and Mariupol, while progress south of Robotyne could threaten Tokmak.

Ukraine's Western Sponsors Running Out of Ammo & Out of Time
Aug 31, 2023<
Update on the conflict in Ukraine for August 31, 2023:
- The Western media is trying to spin Ukrainian gains within the security or “gray zone” ahead of Russia’s first of several defense lines as a “turning point” in the offensive;
- Ukraine’s offensive potential has been exhausted with the West struggling to find arms and ammunition to replace Ukrainian losses;
- The West is even struggling to pull together large numbers of antiquated and inappropriate equipment like the post-WW2 Leopard 1 tank;
- Meanwhile Ukraine continues conducting drone strikes in Russia, achieving questionable PR value and little else;
- A recent Ukrainian drone strike on an airport hosting Il-76 strategic airlift aircraft damaged 2. To put that in context, Russia operates over 100 of these aircraft and has production capacity to build up to 12 annually;
- Ukraine’s sponsors are unable to sustain the conflict “for as long as it takes,” and only for as long as they have arms and ammunition to supply Ukraine in sufficient quantities;

“…raising hopes…”
Damn…. There’s that HOPIUM ADDICTION yet again. It must almost be time for renewed cries of GIBS-ME-DAT BILLIONS of American taxpayer dollars.
MO’ MONEY…MO’ MONEY… MO’ MONEY!!
In Moscow in 48 hours right...
Yes! In three days in February 2022, but the plucky Ukrainians have held their own for a year and a half against a military "superpower."
You said the same thing a year ago right before your Putin fled from right bank Kherson!
LOL!
Cancer treatments for your Putin in Sochi this weekend. Having a hard time these days. Especially when Crimea gets hit again tonight.
Putin will definitely NOT have a good time in Sochi this weekend.
All of your statements are dubious, to say the least. Russia is hoping that, through propaganda, they can convince the U.S.and NATO to abandon Ukraine, like they did in 2014.

Double post. Sorry.
Like Prigozhin?
This article shows how weak the Ukrainian effort has been, and this has been their best effort with their last scraped-together NATO-equipped units.
Ukraine is too weak to punch through the forward strongpoints, so they have been channeled east to Verbove. That's not a sign of strength. They are tapped out.
Don’t forget Kharkiv.
FIRST Russian defense line and they’ve only gone over parts of the anti-tank ditch.

Wrong, its the main Surovikin defense line. Both the zero and the first line were overcome some time ago.
After that its open fields with an occasional tiny village all the way to Tokmak.
Currently, the UA is shelling the far end of Verbove and is encroaching on Novoprokopivka
