The man who killed three people in a racist shooting in a Jacksonville Dollar General store had legally purchased the guns despite previously being involuntarily institutionalized for mental health issues, the sheriff said.
Sheriff T.K. Waters called Ryan Christopher Palmeter, 21, a “maniac” but there was nothing that could have stopped him from owning firearms.
“There was no flag that could have come up to stop him from purchasing those guns,” Waters said at a Sunday news conference. “They were 100% legal.”….

Well, there’s always one.
Look at who gave him the OK. Charge them.
Someone post that Bart Simpson “Say the Line” meme with Bart wearing an FBI hat.
He had a PA-15 milled lower from Palmetto Arms. Bet you soup to nuts that Palmetto Arms gets sued and this becomes justification for banning ghost guns.
Background check database fails again.
Gun control is fail.
Is this the same Jacksonville shooting where the shooter released a manifesto, yet just like Nashville, authorities refuse to release it.
This is just more Fake News. We are being lied to by the press and the authorities.
Exceprt,
Question 21.h. This term shall include: (1) a finding of insanity by a court in a criminal case; and (2) those persons found incompetent to stand trial or found not guilty by reason of lack of mental responsibility.
Committed to a Mental Institution: A formal commitment of a person to a mental institution by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority. The erm includes a commitment to a mental institution involuntarily. The term includes commitment for mental defectiveness or mental illness. It also includes commitments for other reasons, such as for drug use. The term does not include a person in a mental institution for observation or a voluntary admission to a mental institution.
From the article
In 2017, Ryan Christopher Palmeter was committed under the Florida Baker Act, which allows family members to involuntarily detain and institutionalize loved ones for emergency mental health services.The sheriff reported that Palmeter, who was 15 at the time, was held for 72 hours and then released without further involuntary detainment.
Apparently since he was a minor institutionalized by his parents, and presumably the doctors didn't see him as a danger, he fell through the cracks. Don't know if the relevant age of majority was 18 or 21 but too bad the issue wasn't revisited.
They haven’t released this guy’s manifesto either. I hope they don’t ever or for a long time.
Interesting the article left that out. It pinpoints the cause, the individual not the firearm.
Sure is a lot of press lately about a racist white man killing three blacks.
But had it been a racist black man who killed three blacks?
~~~crickets
Gun control is fail."Gun control" laws are designed to fail.
TPTB aren't interested in control...
...their goal is prohibition.
Hmm. In 2017 Palmeter was a minor. Under age.
I’m guessing that Baker Act detail was expunged.
Well lying on a form is totally fine just ask Hunter Biden
The sheriff is right..!
Sheriff Waters is newly elected......so far so good. 🤞
No lies. He wasnt involuntarily committed so he passed all requirements for mental health.
