“Ukraine has already lost 400,000 men on the battlefield” - former Pentagon adviser

Douglas Macgregor, a retired colonel of the United States Army and a political analyst, told Tucker Carlson in an interview on his program on the social media network X, formerly known as Twitter, that Ukraine has already lost 400,000 soldiers in its war with Russia. His revelation comes as the New York Times reported that Ukraine’s counteroffensive is struggling because some of Kiev’s best troops are “in the wrong places.”

“I think all of the lies that have been told for more than a year and a half about “the Ukrainians are winning”, “Ukrainian causes just”, “the Russians are evil”, “the Russians are incompetent” - all of that is collapsing. And it's collapsing because what’s happening on the battlefield is horrific,” Macgregor told Carlson.

In this sense, the former adviser to the Department of Defense during the Presidency of Donald Trump affirmed that Ukraine had lost 400,000 men during the conflict with Russia.

“Ukrainians now we think have lost 400,000 men killed in battle. We were talking about 300-350,000 a few months ago. Within the last month of this supposed counteroffensive which was to sweep the battlefield, they lost at least 40,000 killed,” he said.

Why no press embeds in Ukraine showing how badass Zelensky’s troops are?

If they're anything like our own media, they'd be feeding intel to the enemy!

Remember, comparing yourself with MacGregor because you were in the service is really, really dopey.

I agree completely. War is a failure of diplomacy or in this case the intentional absence of it.

Lol…how do you think journalists like the NYT and WashPo know anything to write about.
Everyone has “sources”

Some really know things. Others are pretty good at figuring out things from what they observe. They

Other sources esp from certain agencies and contract groups have the mission of planting in the media what the govt wants you to know and think. So if you want to follow the news from Kiev DC and London, that’s your comfort zone.

But be assured the real elites are getting other angles.

I am just ever so relieved to not be in the business of shoveling bull manure to the Generals everyday, and sending more manure up to respond to Congressional taskers through multiple layers of editorial censorship that assure the Biden/Blinken angle is the only angle they read of whats happening.

The info MacGregor and Ritter are receiving and sharing…is not what the govt wants you to know and think about this war. Which is why they are endlessly attacked as “Russian shills, propagandists, supporters” or worse. They are experienced military officers with combat training and experience, and can provide analytical insights on how both sides are performing and likely future actions. Luckily there is a lively community of similarly knowledgeable analysts sharing our opinions via specialty blogs, because we are watching history in the making.

“It probably took three years...to lose that many. Today, we’eve cut that 36 months down to 18.”

Indeed, 160 years ago, armies relied on single shot muskets, single shot cannons and horses. Today armies have automatic/semi-automatic rifles, machine guns, grenades, tanks, APCs, airplanes, laser-guided missiles, cluster bombs and drones. The advances in weapons systems has made war fighting deadlier than our ancestors could have ever imagined.

I don’t know of any other source that says something like that that is well placed. If McGregor says it then it is wrong.

Sources? Some are made up, while others just spread 'misinformation', and some are of the 'mysterious' kind.

How much of what comes from 'sources' can be believed, even if written by the NYT or WashPo? How many media reports were there from the NYT and WashPos and other 'trusted' media giants that made people believe that the Hillary/Steele dossier contents were true? How about the reports about the Trump/Ukraine phone call? How many media reports that used 'reliable' sources were true regarding the Trump/Mar-a-Lago documents?

A famous person once said: 'trust but verify'. The media is far too often corrupt, even if they sometimes report the truth. Same with the 'reliable sources'. Trust but verify.

And here we are…another 300,000 dead Ukrainians because Zelensky was ordered by Boris Johnson to reject a peace deal in March 2022

Satisfied?

I read the article and it still doesn’t answer the question, what does being a Nazi today mean? It is a nice buzz word that I guess at best refers to white supremacists. So call them white supremacists then. In a country and frankly large area that is mostly white I am not sure what that means
As to aligning with the nazis in the past all of Europe is guilty of that. French, Belgium, Dutch, Norwegians, Latvians, Lithuanians, hell even Russians fought on the side of Germany during the war. How about Bulgaria, Rumania, and Italy, they did as well.

How often is their past nazi participation discussed?

The question remains what does it mean to be a “neonazi” in this day and age. The article itself even puts the cabash on putins claim of de-nazification.

There is no hitler saying heil hitler means nothing, there is no Nazi germany as a power so being a “nazi” means nothing.

Putin was looking to expand Russian power, influence and territory. His reasons(excuses) don’t and never did hold water.

I think my favorite is to stop NATO expansion (that worked real well) as if what, once Ukraine became part of NATO, then NATO would attack.

Before the war, Ukraine was no military threat, Finland and Sweden were firmly against joining NATO and most of NATO was continuing down a demilitarization path. Just look at the hoops they have had to jump through to arm Ukraine.

The war is a tragedy all around, and was totally unnecessary except for the goals and dreams of one man, Putin.

As to corruption no argument there, but seriously I think Russians corruption and robbing the Russian people blind takes second place to no one even Biden.

The constant “lamenting” of Ukrainian loses on these threads might actually mean something if I thought they gave a damn about them. Their laments ring hollow when they fail to put any blame on Russia or Putin for the loses. At best it seems that their point is that if only Ukraine had understood the benevolence of Putin and surrendered at the outset this could have been avoided, and since we are talking history, russian (Soviet) occupation of Ukraine in the past makes todays loses small in comparison

The Ukrainians know that a Russian occupation would not have been a good thing for the Ukrainian people

Lastly, though I still don’t know what being a Nazi means today, I can look back, ya know history, and say russia(Putin) sure use lots of Nazi tactics, and Russia sure looks a lot more like nazi germany than a free and open country

So want to end these loses and this war, just have Putin pull his troops back and recognize Ukraine for the sovereign country they previously pledged to protect

Sure but the emotion of using term nazi and it’s associated evils and crimes is why they use the word.

Additionally like calling someone a racist or bigot means nothing more than you hate them, like calling Trump a Nazi BTW those same folks wear che tshirts….

Putin didn’t call for the de-totalitarianism of Ukraine did he?

That is my point, besides be pretty tough to do that when he himself is a in all but name a dictator

So de-totalitarianism a country that is not a dictatorship and de-militarize a country that was a marginal military power at that time. Yup solid reasons, but you know the real reasons as do all who pretend that Russia was somehow justified in his desires

Evil is evil and Putin is evil so we agree there

“Russian are getting better—battle hardened as we are becoming a nation of Metrosexuals. Yeah, we can use computers to fly drones but can we go toe to toe with Russians?”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Well, the entire world is actually witnessing that Russia is rather weak!

Indeed, mighty Russia was supposed to take over Kiev and the entirety of Ukraine within a couple of weeks, remember?
It was simply unthinkable and truly unimaginable that a few Ukrainians would be able to totally halt the Russian military machine advances.

Actually, Ukrainians managed to take back 53% of the land areas originally stolen by Russia. It’s pretty unbelievable, but true.

Also, Russia’s army seems rather depleted now after 1,5 years of unsuccessful war.

Thus, to see how incapable Russians have been after one and a half years of war, it is truly reassuring for Nato, which is massively more powerful than Ukraine of course. If there is no nuclear war, NATO has now the proof it can very easily defend itself against any attempt by Russia to invade Europe.

Actually, Russia has not taken much more than what they had already taken in 2014 anyway. Basically they still have Crimea (stolen in 2014) and they have simply regrouped back into DONBAS regions which they also took in 2014.

So what have they managed to take in addition to that after 1,5 years of war, 250.000 russians dead soldiers, 4200 lost tanks, a rebellion within Russia...? Well, basically nothing more compared to what they already had taken in 2014!

We have to let THAT sink in for a minute...
