Maui residents who obeyed traffic orders perished, those who ignored them survived

As more details emerge about what really happened in Maui, one thing is unmistakable: the government has completely surrendered its delegated charge as the guarantor of unalienable rights, and in its current form, it is wholly unsuited to have any sort of authoritative role.

A report out yesterday at The Hill detailed that Maui residents fleeing the blaze were barricaded in by several road closures, established by local authorities; those who heeded the orders died, and those who didn’t, escaped the flames. From the article:

Those who disobeyed the barricaded road closures during the Maui fires survived the disaster, while many of those who heeded orders to turn around perished in their cars and homes with no way out….

Officials closed Lahaina Bypass Road due to the fires, blocking the only way out of Lahaina to the southern part of the island.

One family swerved around the barricade set up to escape the flames, while another resident took a dirt road uphill to climb above the fire…. However, many others who stayed in the cars on that road were stuck in a gridlock, with fires surrounding them on most sides….

Maybe somebody should tell this unnamed officer that “I was just following orders” isn’t a valid defense.

It goes without saying, it’s very concerning that we really can’t tell whether the government is simply staffed by the most utterly incompetent people because that’s the nature of the beast

Anyone who has actually lived in Hawaii for any period of time would automatically assume that any order given by their government would be wrong. They are malevolent idiots.

I saw a helicopter crash at the Pahakoloa Training Area in the late '70s that killed ten Marines. Since it happened on base and I was the nearest senior officer, I secured the crash site and the bodies and the teams searching for the missing Marine (of the 10 dead and two injured one more was missing - we later found him standing where he had been dropped off when he had gotten airsick).

The Hilo police showed up and began walking through the wreck site and pawing through the debris. I asked them what they were doing and they said "we're taking charge of this site as a part of a murder investigation". I chased their dumb butts away with my (unloaded) .45.

Damn! I had a feeling that would happen,

Yesterday I viewed a U-toob video of drone coverage of Lahania. It was absolutely breath-taking. I thought about saving it to my hard drive but it was about a gig in size, so I procrastinated.

I read this news piece this morning and thought to go back and at least capture a screen-grab of the line of charred vehicles representing the roadblock. But alas, all traces of the video have been disappeared without a trace.

I think I’ll wander over to Rumble and see if it was posted there...
