Wealthy Marin County residents finally begin to experience the crime they voted for

“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.” – H.L. Mencken

In the third decade of the 21st century, Mencken’s quotation needs to be upgraded. It’s not just that the common people are getting what they wanted good and hard, it’s that the virtue-signaling affluent leftists are finally getting it too. Certainly, that’s the conclusion to be had from a story about rising shoplifting in Marin County, once a very safe community and also one of America’s most fanatically Democrat-voting counties.

To appreciate the news story I’m about to share with you, you need to know two things about Marin County. First, in 2014, Marin County voters enthusiastically supported Proposition 47, with 79.14% of the voters saying “yes,” as opposed to 20.86% saying “no.” But what is Prop. 47, you ask? Excellent question and the answer matters a great deal.

Even before 2015, when Michael Brown attacked a police officer and tried to seize the officer’s gun, getting himself killed in the process, an event that marked the beginning of the mainstream war on the police, California was already paving the way for an increase in crime and a diminishment of law enforcement. Prop. 47 was that salvo, for it reduced shoplifting from a felony to a misdemeanor if the stolen goods are valued at less than $951 dollars. In other words, after Prop. 47 passed, you’d get a ticket for stealing up to $950 in merchandise.

People should go to fancy restaurants there, ring up an $900 tab and just walk out. The fine will cost less than the meal.

The Police won't waste their time unless it's $1,000.

The buffoons supported Prop 47 and probably don’t support the 2nd Amendment.

The mind of a leftist/liberal is impenetrable. So, they cannot be shamed nor held responsible for the consequences of their elections. They just exist and there ain’t a damned thing you can do about it!

A bedroom community serviced by mosquito fleet style ferries from San Francisco and of course its got adequate roads in an out too. I think Grace Slick from the Jefferson Airplane lives or used to live there. A place where sanity goes to die.

I lived in two Rock California which is Northern Marin County three or four years back in the early to mid 70s. It was cows and chicken farms for eggs. It was kind of smelly. But it was a nice place it was hardly anybody up there Rohnert Park was just a little bit of a town and there was a club up there in Cotati that used to have bands and it was an old large converted quonset hut. Those were the days my friend.

San Fran was still scenic. Yosemite was a ghost town, Tahoe was doing okay but there wasn’t any sprawl. You could camp above the treeline and keep yourself warm with a fire, a wool army blanket and a bottle of mad dog 20/20.

I miss that. It’s sad to witness.

They thought the lefty politicians they voted for would not implement their lefty schemes in their wealthy community - some of these lefty politicians like Gavin Newsom have homes in areas like Marin.

Rampant homelessness, rampant shoplifting, criminal activity - well, that is for other people’s communities, certainly not theirs.

They deserve it. You’ll find no sympathy from me. Now break ground on those large Section 8 projects your voted to put in other people’s neighborhoods.

It’s a truly beautiful county. It does lack sanity, but it’s hard to find perfection anywhere.

When you cross the Golden Gate bridge going north from San Francisco you enter Marin County—home of wealthy leftist crazies—disgusting arrogant virtue signaling folks.

Yup—I have traveled all over the country and lived in many states (including the Bay Area many decades ago).

Marin County folks are the most despicable jerks I found—anywhere—within a few minutes they make you want to hate them.

Back when SF was still a decent place, we stayed at "The Inn Above Tide" in Sausalito. The views were gorgeous.

My uncle moved to Corte Madera in the mid 60’s. He was a doctor. I remember visiting them in the mid 70’s. Did all the touristy things. GG bridge, Muir Woods and Stinson beach.
SF was a decent place.

Went back there in 2019. Was very surprised at the change.
Won’t go back.

Cross over the Golden Gate Bridge out of San Franfeces, and you’re in Marin. I lived in San Rafael over 40 years ago. Nuce place at the time.

I know there’s a bunch of ‘campers’ parked in Marin County, so maybe this ‘shoplifting’ problem is more these ‘campers’ just doing their grocery and other runs.
