Girls are no longer taught to be demure.

* * *

You hit the nail on the head, my FRiend.  Fortunately, here in Japan the women are still taught to be demure: confident, but modest in speech and conservative in dress.

Today's weather (north of Tokyo) is as hot and muggy as a sun-scorching July day in Georgia.  Yet rarely do you see women wearing skirts cut above the knee or showing much of skin on the torso.  Most where wear white, airy clothes.  No tattoos or nose rings either.

At first, you ask yourself: why be all covered up in the middle of summer?!  But, most everyone in the city is not far from an air-conditioned office, store, bus, train, or restaurant.  A wide umbrella also does a good job of blocking the sun's rays.

Now I don't mean to imply that the women are prudish here.  Actually, delicate conversations are not forbidden.  The difference is that people don't cross the lines of decorum.  People laugh at the suggestion, but everyone gets to maintain their dignity.

Thus, for a man, the charm of the female species is maintained and their allure is enhanced.

People go over board in cooling the summer's heat. Offices,
homes have their thermostats turned down to low 70s, some even
register in the 60s yet they are not happy. Women, especially, become unconfortablely cold or chilled, simply
because they have less body fat than men. During the summer,
we do tend to dress in more transitional clothes Or at least
wear a light warm jacket or a shawl. Women with anemia are even more inclined to do this. Cold buildings, homes, can be
so cold one must wear something to cover bare arms to feel
comfortable. Personally, have two solutions, comfortable tops/blouses, jeans, and two warming alternatives: a warm jacket or a shawl. Always used one when the temps or so uncomfortable. Easy to slip off and on. Only drawback is
if these are removed at any time, they might be left behind
when leaving the vicinity, or office. This can be frustrating.
