DeSantis made the remark in an interview with the Florida Standard, lamenting the label “RINO” given to him and others by many Trump supporters, who view him as a traitor for jumping into the presidential race prematurely.
“We have a strand in our party that views supporting Trump as whether you are a RINO or not. And so you could be the most conservative person since sliced bread. Unless you’re kissing his rear end, they will somehow call you a RINO,” DeSantis said. “Ultimately, a movement can’t be about the personality of one individual.”
He then targeted Trump supporters directly, telling the outlet, “Because if you’re not rooted in principle, if all we are is listless vessels that are just supposed to follow, whatever happens, to come down the pike on Truth Social every morning, that’s not going to be a durable movement.”
The comment, while perhaps as not as direct as Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” remark, triggered similar reactions.
“Bold move for Ronda Santis to follow the Crooked Hillary Clinton strategy and begin attacking Trump supporters,” Donald Trump Jr. reacted, addressing the criticism head-on.
“Trump supporters aren’t ‘listless vessels,’ they just know a globalist fraud when they see one. That’s why your campaign is dying and @realDonaldTrump is surging!!!!” he exclaimed.

Are you kidding. I am laughing at how stupid DeSantis is. I don’t care if his “listless” remark took one tenth of a second. It probably took about the same amount of time as Hillary’s deplorable remark And his literary device of saying Trump’s supporters daily kiss Trump’s rear is wrapped around his neck forever. He is over.
Except that’s not what DeSantis said, though I think it’s quite telling that that’s what Trump and his supporters heard. Trump is never one to let an opportunity to play the victim go by.

I suggest that the consultants are the ones hosing his campaign. If someone wants to run for office, why do they need a consultant? Why not a little common sense?

That implies the Republicans are not corrupt nor traitorous. We all know better. C’mon.
This “Listless Vessel” will happily help reelect Trump.
That's not incorrect per se, but DeSantis' narrative since entering the race was that Trump didn't have that good of a record. So that throws the argument to the wolves that we need a candidate to carry on Trump's policies without the Trump drama. If it wasn't good, what would be the point of that? It also lets Joe Biden off the hook...also not a winning message for the general..."well, DeSantis, you yourself said Trump's policies weren't good, so all of the problems we are having are just Trump's mess I'm cleaning up."

And it’s meaning was clear, as clear as you can be when you’re attacking someone or something bur leave enough wiggle room to later say “That’s not what I meant”, when people call you out on it.
That’s DeSantis’s M.O. Attack the DOJ’s unequal prosecution of Trump vs Hillary, but don’t acknowledge that the indictments against Trump are actually bogus. Criticize the DOJ’s violation of J6 defendants’ due process rights, while doing nothing to challenge the left’s narrative of J6 being a coup attempt by violent Trump supporters, encouraged by Trump himself.
