Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said China could invade Taiwan without major consequences from the U.S. once he has hypothetically attained the nation’s “semiconductor independence” in 2028.
Semiconductor independence: In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Ramaswamy stressed the importance of semiconductors and why the U.S. should take aggressive action until the nation is able to produce its own. Ramaswamy noted that China would hypothetically not take the risk of aggressing towards Taiwan for his term “if we show we’re serious about [semiconductor independence].”

No - that's the position of the neoisolationist, draft-dodging wing of the Freerepublic.
The majority of us who have spent some in the wide world know that we are obliged to fight for our interests and allies. - you know, the Men's Department of the Freerepublic.
I agree with defending Taiwan but I do not think Vivek’s position is absurd or ridiculous.
Many Americans are reasonably unwilling to commit US soldiers to defend foreign nations.
this is Yahoo a rats nest of disinformation so l think it’s wise to withhold judgement
What a strange remark for a presidential candidate to be making. Is he trying to torpedo his own campaign on it’s maiden voyage? I have never heard any American politician say anything like that.
The lessons we were supposed to learn was to stay ahead of our enemies and to engage them where they pop up, rather than wait until they get here.
Hiding under the bed and hoping that they will leave us alone hasn't been on the table for a very long while.
Recommend a good 20th Century History course.
I think the candidates ‘take turns’,and the media plays along too, on who gets center stage for a time.... To be ‘fair’ of course s/
Headline is misleading.
I agree!! A STRANGE comment. So far everything I have heard about him I don’t like. That goes for all other candidates except Donald Trump!
Much of what he says sounds like a left-wing caricature of what people on the right sound like. Something is very off about him.
That’s all he said. No American boots on the ground in Taiwan. And American boots on the ground is probably the least effective way anyway of stopping a Chinese invasion since we will easily be outnumbered. There are much better ways including use of force that doesn’t involve boots on the ground. So where did he say he will give China the green light to take Taiwan ? I didn’t see it.
Goodbye Swami. You’re now relegated to the ashcan of history.

I think it’s more that the other candidates are ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS about MAGA (which is something that Rush always said too).
To them, they only see $$$$, and they also figure that the country is like a Heavy Bag - you can keep whacking it, and it will never die (or be seriously damaged)...after all, where THEY live, kids are safe, stores are safe, so what’s the problem?
There are some people posting here that purposely leave out context or large parts of what another candidate may have said in order to mislead people. For some it happens rarely and was simply in error. For others it happens a lot and is deliberate.
It is disgusting and so RAT-like.
Vivek has lost me.
Well then, the weaker the US gets, the more of its blood and treasure will be up for grabs. And deals like that one make the USA weaker.
I agree wholeheartedly. In the old days the comments were as informative as the posted articles and often more thoughtful. Now, the majority of comments are mindless, knee-jerk reactions often so disconnected from the original article that they might as well have been posted by bots. I really don’t know why I bother to read them anymore. I need help, I guess.
It’s not yours to give Swamy.
Thanks for the added comments. Context is everything.
Wow he really made a fool of himself.
Taiwan’s strategic importance goes way beyond semiconductors.
Our allies would consider this a disaster.
He’s counting on the chinks getting him elected the way the chinks got slimy bidey elected.
