It has been a long time since I heard a song that produced such a visceral reaction for me. I am blown away. No matter how many times I listen, it punches me in the gut every time. I can hear his voice, but I can feel the emotions behind the words even more. He is singing from his soul, and during these few moments I can feel his Blues, his raw emotion in my bones. I think we all know this, we just mostly choose to ignore it. If we continue, it is at our own peril. We are headed toward a destination were no one will be willing to speak to each other, and we are getting closer every day. Songs like this are needed, songs with meaning and purpose!

SIINGING truth to power to quote our woke progressive DSers!
WWG1WGA!
Just listened to it.
It’s great
I would have a lot of lyrics to add....
Saw the video for the first time last evening. Mybwife commented it was a pretty powerful song.
Mybwife = my wife.
Re lyrics to add:
This guy lit a fire under many sleeping people with this song.
It would sound better without that guitar
I understand Oliver Anthony turned down a multi-million dollar deal with a record company.
Good for him!
Agree!
An American Anthem!
Interesting line:
“I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere”
Epstein’s island? It would appear so.

“Rich Men North Of Richmond”
I’ve been sellin’ my soul, workin’ all day
Overtime hours for bullshit pay
So I can sit out here and waste my life away
Drag back home and drown my troubles away
It’s a damn shame what the world’s gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is
Livin’ in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don’t think you know, but I know that you do
‘Cause your dollar ain’t shit and it’s taxed to no end
‘Cause of rich men north of Richmond
I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street, ain’t got nothin’ to eat
And the obese milkin’ welfare
Well, God, if you’re 5-foot-3 and you’re 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds
Young men are puttin’ themselves six feet in the ground
‘Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin’ them down
Lord, it’s a damn shame what the world’s gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is
Livin’ in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don’t think you know, but I know that you do
‘Cause your dollar ain’t shit and it’s taxed to no end
‘Cause of rich men north of Richmond
I’ve been sellin’ my soul, workin’ all day
Overtime hours for bullshit pay
Consider that this song was 'dropped" on the Internet on August 8. A week later, it was the number one song in the country. Just just for country music but across all genres. That includes the slickly produced music of established mainstream artists such as Taylor Swift. Oliver Anthony's (Christopher Lunsford) self-produced, self-written song pushed all of that aside to claim the number one slot in the country in just days.
This kind of achievement was unthinkable up until recently. It used to be that you needed a recording contract with a major label to even get on the national radar and even then, it usually took years of promotion and endless small venue gigs to build enough of an audience to even get the attention of the record labels.
This allowed the record labels to hand select who THEY wanted to turn into superstars. This is mainly why so much of today's music is lame and uninspiring.
No major label would have signed Oliver Anthony on the basis of that song. Even if they thought he'd have appeal to a country audience, they'd sanitize his lyrics, clean him up, and have him perform Randy Travis covers or something like that.
But with today's technology, somebody like Oliver Anthony can record an acoustic song like this in his own backyard, upload it to the social media platforms, and watch it explode to be the number one song in the country within days.
In fact, looking at the iTunes Top 100 Country chart this morning, Oliver Anthony has the top three songs in the country right now, five songs in the Top 10, and 19 songs in the Top 100.
Also at #5 in the country chart is the song that the Left was hating on just a few weeks ago - "Try That In A Small Town" by Jason ALdean.
The entire music industry must be shell-shocked.
Why?
Correct. Clever line.
He doesn’t want to become what he is singing about. He doesn’t want to be controlled.
Mark to listen later
Left-wing Social Media has brought out their heaviest-hitters to try and take Mr. Anthony down. They’ve already dug up his legal name, and his actual address, and Vaush (the blogger who pretty much single-handedly took down JK Rowling for “transphobia”) just published an article yesterday about how Anthony is supposedly a “Fraud”, an “Industry Plant”, a “racist”, “Anti-Semite”, “MAGAt”, “tRUMP-tard”, “Q-Tard”, who is “peddling disproven conspiracy theories”, blah blah blah, and on top of all of that, he’s a “terrible musician not fit to even lick the boots of Woody Guthrie”
Basically, all the negative press I am seeing from the left-side seems almost hysterical. They really REALLY hate this guy.
I find myself genuinely worried for his safety.
There’s one video in which he reads from the Bible before he sings. That alone could get him arrested.
What is really telling to me is how viscerally hostile the Left has been to this song. I’ve heard it and the singer accused of being:
A) a fascist
B) far right
C) Neo Confederate
The Left celebrated songs like this for generations. They used to care about the working class. This is yet another example which shows how much the modern Left hates the working class. They know the “Rich men north of Richmond” ie DC Swamp politicians, bureaucrats and lobbyists are overwhelmingly Democrats.
That was definitely a reference to Epstein and Pedo Island.....and say, where is the list of clients? Gosh, who is on that list? (as if we didn’t all know its populated by politicians, prominent corporate executives etc). Epstein’s “suicide” sure does look suspicious. What an amazing coincidence that the cameras didn’t work and the guards were asleep. Who had the power to arrange that?
OOPS! There I go again asking questions that point the finger straight at “rich men north of Richmond”.
