Thwarted by minefields, Ukrainian forces won't reach the southeastern city of Melitopol, a vital Russian transit hub, according to a U.S. intelligence asessment....

You'd have to be a Richard Ukrainium to think that this was a serious effort.
This was a fakefensive.
The Ukrainians just cannon fodder in a war of attrition to weaken Russia and intimidate China into submission with the implication "you are next".
So we give them another 20 billion or so.
Yeah, but how much should be give to Ukraine? /s
Down the hole.
Melitopol is the gateway to Crimea — but Tokmak has to fall first.
Are the talking about “The Spring Offensive” when autumn is five weeks away?
So, we’ll be getting the BILLIONS of TAXPAYER DOLLARS thrown down this particular rat hole, then?
Yeah. Sure. Whatever. *SPIT*
In the News/Activism forum, on a thread titled U.S. intelligence says Ukraine will fail to meet offensive's key goal, ConservativeInPA wrote: Are the talking about “The Spring Offensive” when autumn is five weeks away?
Yes, I saw an article coyly asking, "Now that talk about the 2023 Spring offensive has died down, is it time to start talking about the 2024 Spring offensive?" By claiming they will be viable in Spring 2024, they hope to secure continued billions until the US Treasury makes that sound a drinking straw makes when the beverage is gone.

It’s a good thing we have intelligence analysts who, at the cost of tens of billions, can tell us such surprising news. /sarc
Duh! The video and pictures of all the US and West’s military equipment in smoldering flames chaps my butt. My anger rises with the horrendous Ukies casualties being inflicted, and to know the US is behind the slaughter is disgusting.
Oxymoron
Co-conspirators, more like.
So. when do we drag Zelensky to the negotiation table to stop bleeding the US treasury.
By increments, the "narrative" is changing, first triumphal, then p[laying the victim and now "failing to meet" those key goals. Tick tock.
Even with cluster bombs. What’s next chemical weapons.
More death. More destruction. Let’s Go Brandon!
Hell, all the billions we spend on our intel agencies, and the assessment was right here on Free Republic...for free.
“Tick tock.”
Any student of history can tell you Ukraine is going to be cut free.
Even with cluster bombs. What’s next chemical weapons.
Waiting for the wunderwaffen. Those will turn the tide. Or maybe the Czarina will die.
As "free" as Afghanistan.... Trillions wasted, and nothing to show for it.
Of Afghanistan, I posted these little headlines to another thread and reproduce them here:

I am of the opinion that in this stage of the war, taking ground is not as important as destroying Russian capabilities. Ukraine should focus on destroying the avenues in and out of strategic hubs, thereby cutting off resupply.
