One of the world's most wanted illegal immigrants has been captured in New Hampshire after being sentenced to 275 years in jail for his part in a massacre.
Antonio Jose De Abreu Vidal Filho was apprehended by immigration officers in Rye, New Hampshire, on Monday after fleeing to the United States in 2019.
The former Brazilian military police officer had been involved in the 2015 Curio Massacre, which was the murder of 11 individuals, including teens, after the death of a police officer.
Filho, 29, was tried and convicted in June of this year, with a board of judges in the city of Fortaleza, Brazil, handing him a sentence of 275 years and 11 months in prison for his part in the murders.
In a comment piece about the case, the Boston Herald said: 'No one should have to live in fear of unvetted criminals who cross the border and are protected from deportation from the 'good people' who see law enforcement as agents against democracy.'
Filho had been the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, marking him as being wanted for murder, attempted murder, physical torture and mental torture.
An Interpol notice serves as an international wanted notice and provides information on the identification of fugitives charged with or convicted of serious crimes who have fled prosecution or the serving of their sentence.
It remains unclear how immigration officials tracked him to Rye, New Hampshire, or his activities there.
According to Brazilian outlet El Globo, moved to the U.S. with his family after deserting the military police force.
Filho was one of four officers sentenced to more than 1,000 years behind bars collectively for the killings, having attended the trial remotely.

The article just says he was apprehended in Rye, NH . No idea how he got there or how long he had been there. Journalists today suck.

“Filho” is not his last name. It means “son”. We would say, “Junior”. It is a generational distinction.
Interestingly, “Junior” is an actual name in Brazil, rather than a generational distinction.
Rye NH is a nice beach village.
