The survey asked respondents who they would support if the 2024 presidential election were held today, choosing between Trump and Biden.
They are virtually tied among all national registered voters, with Biden garnering 47 percent to Trump’s 46 percent. Seven percent remain undecided.
Predictably, most Democrats, 88 percent, support Biden and 90 percent of Republicans support Trump. But Trump also has the edge among independents. Nearly half, 48 percent, of independents support Trump. Biden comes in eight percent behind with 40 percent support among independents. Twelve percent remain unsure.
The poll was taken August 11-14, 2023, among 1,220 adults and has a +/- 3.5 percent margin of error.

Trump’s lead among independents has been consistent with other surveys. For instance, a July Harvard CAPS-Harris poll showed Trump with an 18-point lead among independent Americans.

It is possible — even likely — that Trump’s standing among independents will increase following his fourth indictment at the hands of a grand jury in Georgia. A Rasmussen Reports survey taken prior to his fourth indictment found most Republicans and independents not approving of the third indictment, related to January 6.
As Breitbart News detailed:
Sixty-nine percent of Republicans at least somewhat disapprove of the new indictment, and of those, 61 percent “strongly” disapprove. Independents are also not on board, as 52 percent at least somewhat disapprove of the latest indictment. Of those, 40 percent “strongly” disapprove.
The X-Factor in all of this, is will Trump be vindicated in time for the election?
90% of republicans don’t support Trump. That is a ridiculous statement, which makes the rest of this article suspect.
If they mean Republican Politicians, that's pretty much correct.
What people say on the phone to pollsters vs how they vote next spring in the voting booth are two different things.
“What people say on the phone to pollsters vs how they vote next spring in the voting booth are two different things.”
Also we could say that they will vote for the person they hate the least.
the more indictments
the more obvious this is political perscution
This is the most important polling I have seen.
Independents decide everything.
No, “Independent” does not mean they are on the fence between right and left.
It means they care about issues the establishment of both parties do NOT want anyone to care about.
Like lobbyist money. Like absence of term limits. Like party hierarchies having power to annoint nominees.
In other words, they care about Draining the Swamp.

If it’s an NPR poll saying this, it must be really bad.
The last question ...and the key to the hidden mystery is:
And who do you think your neighbor will vote for....?
Who knew, the OP is now a fan of polls.
shew. well, if we still had election integrity in this nation, that might be good news.
but we don’t. Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia elections—certainly in the urban areas—are operated in a vacuum of law and order.
barring an act of Almighty God, this republic is in rapid decline.
Think ancient Jerusalem, or Rome, or Constantinople...or perhaps Sodom & Gomorrah.
Even more so 1 and a half hears before the voting.
I agree with you. Last election and even 2016 it was Independent women that Trump was not strong with. This is a turnaround.
One problem when looking at support with independents as a predictor is that people may switch what they call themselves. Maybe a lot of conservatives disguted with the GOP no longer call themselves Republican. I’d be surprised if that isn’t the case.
I think you misread it. It says 90% of republicans DO support Trump.
