Looks like it'll give men 2 additional medals for the same thing assuming there are separate Men's and Women's competitions. Maybe Phelps will come out of retirement, another change at the Olympic Village scene might be a factor.
But it will shine a light on the issue. The men clearly will beat any woman who joins the open category and the obvious hesitancy of women joining the “open” category will display how silly this all is.

Why not just change the rules and categories in all sports and contests to "Biological Male Competitions" and "Biological Female Competitions"?

It’s a great idea. It completely takes away the thing that was attractive to the trannies. Namely the chance to force themselves on women and unfairly win against them. And it does so while using the language of accommodation.
This will force trannies to complete against each other, which they never wanted in the first place. So the category will essentially collapse due to lack of interest by them.
