It is a unique operation. For the limited range of goods they offer the prices are very good. And the quality of most is comparable to or superior to the large chain groceries. Checkout lines can be long since there’s only 3 or 4 employees working at any time. Their produce doesn’t keep as long so it’s best to use it within a day or two of purchase. Basically, it’s a European style store with a German feel to the product selection. Acquired taste.
My aldi's is pretty good except for the produce section like you said. It costs too much for aldi's to maintain a robust produce section so it's not worth it.
It is a German Company as is Trader Joe’s. I believe the owners are related.
