The Gulf of Mexico reached record heat in the first half of August, setting the stage for an intense hurricane season in a region that is no stranger to devastating storms.
Average temperature data from the Southeast Regional Climate Center from Aug. 1-15 indicated record high temperatures on coastal stations, across an unbroken swath of coast stretching from Matamoros in northeastern Mexico to Miami.

At the state and municipal level, Tampa and its suburb Ruskin set a single-day temperature record of 100 degrees Sunday, while Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) declared a state of emergency due to the extreme heat Monday.

Hopefully the frogs realize the Gulf will soon be boiling and hop out immediately.
It seems as the Covid fear mongering let up, the climate change hysteria moved in.
Daily I’m hearing about it in the news broadcasts on the radio. Have you noticed this? Today the woman who read the news had to mention in serious wording how people are “roasting” in Illinois and Ohio. They are seeing the 90’s. OH NO !!!
Hey we are officially in the middle of summer! Some summers around here we go over 100 degrees. If we do this year be prepared to hear the fear mongering.
Are people this dumb? They have no historical memory of hot weather in the summer? I am so weary of this BS.
Winds aloft determine if a storm can become a tropical storm, ripping off the cloud cap before becoming a large storm typically results in a rain shower, dumping potential enegy into droplet formation and a breeze that kills other cells. If the jet stream moves one direction over the southern US no storms in the northern gulf, the other way more than average storms develop.
Weather is complex and no one or two variables determine a bad year or not, all the variables contribute to acutal conditions. The odds are we are in a down year as the jet stream has remained very powerful all summer long and the permahigh over the mid south never really formed.

This shows an anomaly of about 1 degree Celsius is some parts, normal in others.
Like, Tampa never hit 100 degrees before? Right.
This will be the 7th or 8th year in a row they predicted “above average Hurricanes activity.” Wrong every year so far, but maybe they will get a Hail Mary this year. We’ll see.
That is a really cool website / app. I wonder where they get all of their data point from?
Last year was very late in terms of hurricane season and then all heck started.
Naples Florida disagrees with that assessment. We do many insurance companies.
They have several options down on the lower left side of the screen. The default is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
There was a story last month that said ocean temperatures were above 100 degrees F in Florida. I went to the map and they were about 90 degrees F, which is normal for this time of year.

I remember that report. I was thinking if the temperature is around 91 to 94 how can the water temperature be 100 without a heating element?
It won't be when the first hurricane hits those temperature waters.
Where did they measure these temps? Stagnant tide pools in the sun? In the context of effects on Hurricanes, seems to me you would have to get a temp from deep water, not 4 inches from the beach at the very surface of the water
The democrat media tells us that new high temp records are being set every day.
Many records broken date back 150 years or more when SUVs were being powered by
pairs of mules or oxen and many more people were using wood burning pizza ovens.
