They wouldn’t “make” Trump lose. He would likely lose because his unfavorables are unusually high. The country is worse off after his presidency due to his failures, self-absorption, and complete lack of leadership. More Americans are pro-choice now than seven years ago. The culture has gone to pot. The bad economy started with Trump’s spending and with his encouraging states to lock down. He is uninformed, inarticulate, amoral, and is willing to sign any bill that lands on his desk.
No one should vote for the supposedly “most electable” just for that reason. It’s funny you would presume that. There are simply better candidates than Trump and they would thus have a better chance of winning.
Irrespective of Trump’s wishes, I doubt that either Sessions or Barr would have signed off on any prosecution of Hillary Clinton. Senate Majority Leader McConnell would not have permitted Trump to choose someone like Giuliani. It is amazing that Trump accomplished what he did with all of the Democrats openly and a majority of Republicans secretly arrayed against him.
The Deep State wants Trump to win the primary. The result would be him losing the general and he would be gone, possibly even in prison. Desantis can fight the Deep State more effectively and has a better chance of winning the general where he can clean house better than Trump.

If someone other than Trump is the nominee for the GOP, and that candidate is permitted to win, with Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and maybe Wisconsin going Republican along with Virginia, it is because our rulers have decided to go to war against Russia and China. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, Gavin Newsom, or Gretchen Whitmer will not be able to rally the country to war, especially the young white men who have historically fought America's wars. A DeSantis or a Youngkin might be able to replicate the younger Bush's ability to engage the country to war against Xi and Putin.
