At the Iowa State Fair, DeSantis appears to be a second-rate attraction

It seemed everything that could have gone wrong for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Saturday did.

The governor has spent the past two days coddling and cozying up to every Iowa voter and state legislator possible. The return on investment? Being drowned out by his biggest adversaries: progressives and Trump loyalists.

On Saturday afternoon, while DeSantis joined Reynolds and Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst at a grill to flip pork chops, Trump supporters surrounded the venue and chanted, “We love Trump!” Moments later, Trump’s plane flew overhead, seeming to taunt DeSantis as fairgoers craned to get a look.

Trump’s visit to the state fair lasted about an hour — long enough to arrive to the overflowing Steer N’ Stein bar,... the crowd outside of the bar, craning for a glimpse of Trump as he entered or exited, was at least three times the size of the crowd at DeSantis’ “fair-side chat” with Gov. Reynolds

Meanwhile, DeSantis walked through the fair for the better part of Saturday, surrounded by about a dozen men carrying DeSantis signs, who identified themselves as employees of DeSantis’ political action committee, Never Back Down.

Even the crowd at DeSantis’ morning event, protesters aside, was not entirely convinced by the governor.

The fact that a significant portion of DeSantis’ audience couldn’t hear his speech before the audio cut didn’t help, either. Reynolds hadn’t even asked the first question when a group of six protesters began blowing whistles and ringing cowbells, causing Reynolds to stop the event and ask all attendees to be “Iowa nice.”

Don't know who was doing that, but if it was DJT supporters they should be ashamed.

I am sick of the sniping b/w the so-called supporters of both of these good men. Let them have at it in the arena of ideas and policy. Either one would be a whole lot better than Sleepy Joe and his infantile veep.

*sigh* if only Trump had decided not to run again, DeSantis would be leading Biden by 10 points by now.

Your candidate filled his administration with dozens of former Bush staffers and well-heeled donors

He had to work with these snakes in his first term. He's not going to make that same mistake again.

including many from Big Pharma. You don't get more "establishment" than that! Oh, he also declared himself the "most pro-Israel president in history."

That's fine, what he said about Israel. Again, he achieved my objective in stopping Hillary and exposing the two-facedness and cowardice of the GOP. In that regards, his presidency was already a success.

And your candidate has no path to the White House.

Sure he doesn't. That's why he has dedicated supporters who continue to attend his rallies. You know, the very same supporters that DeathSantis needs, and will never get.

You people are being played like a fiddle by the Left but you're too blindly devoted to Trump to see what's happening.

Nice projection tactic.

The Left is laying the trap for Trump to win the GOP nomination, where he'll be soundly defeated by whichever candidate has a (D) after their name. After which point, he'll be hounded mercilessly by lawsuits, bankrupted, and quite possibly imprisoned.

Trump's not going to lose, sorry.

If Trump had any sense, he'd quit this quixotic crusade, drop out, apologize profusely to DeSantis, and endorse him wholeheartedly. It's the only chance he has to at the very least not be cleaned out financially and spend the rest of his life under house arrest at Mar-A-Lago.

Not going to happen. Trump supporters will NEVER vote for DeathSantis.

You're not supporting Trump because of his perceived weakness on guns?

That's laughable.

Donald Trump is working to hold government accountable to the people, get rid of the ingrained corruption, stop the globalists that are trying to run our lives.

He is basically doing a factory-reset of our Constitution and government.

That includes upholding the 2nd Amendment.

Trump's not going to lose, sorry.

Trumpers say this with zero evidence, other than pointing to 2016 where Trump barely beat the most unlikable, corrupt candidate any political party has ever fielded.

Trump has not won anything since.

So how is he going to win in 2024?

You do realize, he is loathed by everyone in the country outside of his base of blindly devoted followers.

Trump talks a big game while doing nothing other than filling his administration with Bush-era swamp creatures and lobbyists.

DeSantis is firing Soros prosecutors. DeSantis is empowering parents over school administrators. DeSantis is crushing the ESG and DEI cancer in Florida.

Trump talks. DeSantis delivers.

*sigh* if only Trump had decided not to run again, DeSantis would be leading Biden by 10 points by now.

And the Democrats would be mired in a brutal primary battle right now.

Instead, here we are with 40+ percent of GOP primary voters no longer interested in winning elections, having rallied around the one man who will ensure a Democrat trifecta in 2024.

Oh well. On the flip side, I won't have to stay up late watching election returns. The race will be over by 10 pm EST.

Though I will have to endure another two months following the election of FReepers posting Sundunce threads about how Trump has assembled a crack legal team to reverse 2024's "stolen election."

Drew, don't be disingenuous. DeSantis is LITERALLY being advised by Bush & his cronies. Trump had to work with these clowns in his first term. He's not going to make that mistake again. He's out for blood, there's going to be a deep cleaning in D.C. and only Trump is the candidate who knows how to do it. That's why they're trying to destroy him with these bogus indictments and lawsuits.

DeSantis is firing Soros prosecutors. DeSantis is empowering parents over school administrators. DeSantis is crushing the ESG and DEI cancer in Florida.

That's fine, that's all good. No one said that DeSantis was a crappy Governor. He's a great Governor. But this is not his time. Trump needs to get this revenge and he needs to finish the job. There's plenty of time for DeSantis, he's only 44 years old.

Trump talks. DeSantis delivers.

If Trump hadn't endorsed DeSantis, FL would have had the bisexual and drug addict for its Governor. Get real, OK?

Who? Name names.

Who are these Bush cronies personally advising DeSantis? And I'm not talking about someone who goes on Fox News to say what DeSantis should be doing despite holding no official position whatsoever within DeSantis' campaign team.

His campaign manager is James William Uthmeier. No attachment to any Bush. Actually, a Trump hire.

His campaign spokesman is Andrew Romero. No Bush attachment. His deputy spokesman is David Polyansky. No Bush attachment.

Most of DeSantis' team were still college students when Jeb was governor and his brother was president.

Do you just make stuff up? Just repeat the baseless garbage that Sundunce spews on the "Conservative" Treehouse?

And in return, DeSantis wholeheartedly endorsed Trump in 2020 in a state that Trump carried by an even greater margin than in 2016.

And DeSantis was re-elected in a massive landslide all on his own.

He does not owe Trump a lifetime of fealty. The debt has been paid and Trump blew it.

Sundance flagged that DeSantis would Challenge Trump in mid-2022, when guys like you were saying, no, no, DeSantis is totally loyal, and too smart to do that.

Then we got leftist style arguments from DeSwampers that DeSantis isn’t going to run, and it’s actually good that he is.

What’s more important?

Agreeing with the base or winning the general election?

The base wants Trump, it’s crystal clear. Those ignoring that are enemies.

Can a far right conservative win the general? No

Neither DeSantis or Trump can win the general because the election will be decided by 3 crooked states.

DeSantis will never win over most of the base because he fought against a clear favorite. He won’t be a front runner 2028, Donalds or any other rising MAGA populist will be. DeSantis killed his career. The base is OVER traitors and those that mock them.

Note: Ohio has 8 mil registered voters. 6 mil are unaffiliated - they prefer populists. Last week, Issue 1 failed because of abortion. Squishy Republican voters voted against restricting abortion. DeSantis doesn’t have a shot here. Ohio was and will be a swing state unless a populist is running for president. DeSantis is not a populist or endearing.

You complain about ‘onlyTrumpers’ without understanding why they want Trump. Trump agrees with them. DeSantis does not. The base believes: the election was stolen, most of DC has to go and justice for every injustice committed against us and Trump. They don’t want a strongly worded email, kabuki theater or ass sniffing. They hate RINOs, DC and the RNC. You and DeSantis criticizing us changes no minds.

—————————-

How to lose, DeSantis approach:

1. Disagree with most of the base -
Trump’s fault he lost
Trump wanted Fauci nonsense
Trump did not fight deep state

2. Alienate 5-7 million ‘onlyTrumpers’ with neverTrump statements.

3. Campaigning as ‘Trump without the baggage or crudeness’ while acting crude.

———————-

How to (possibly) win:

1. Aggressively AGREE with the base.
2. Criticize anyone but Trump, let the base make up their own minds.
3. Attack the corruption and deep state

Vivek is doing this even though he is a trojan horse liar. DeSantis is showing who he really is or he’s no different than any other republican who is fine with the Constitutional mess we are in. I say both.

Note: before one barks - ‘Trump should be criticized, we don’t corronate’……..not effective when most of the base love the man. Criticism only alienates, not gains. If DeSantis believed in his abilities, he would DEFINE how he can finsh the job Trump started instead of criticizing Trump’s failures. Take note DeSantis backers.

Guys like me?

Peruse my posting history before you just make stuff up.

I've been saying and hoping that DeSantis was going to run since at least August '22 (where DeSantis for President 2024 was my tagline).

Well, you're not going to get that by sending Biden back to the White House with a (D) House and Senate which is exactly what will happen if Trump is the nominee.

At least DeSantis drained the Florida swamp. At least DeSantis actually fires people (something Trump could never bring himself to do).

2. Alienate 5-7 million ‘onlyTrumpers’ with neverTrump statements.

If 5-7 million butthurt Trumpers sit at home in '24, that's on them.

Fortunately, I don't believe they're that stupid, as Brian Kemp demonstrated, bringing the MAGA vote home even after Trump, eternally a crybaby, endorsed Stacey Abrams.

Apparently, your only focus is winning the general. Fine, I’ll play along.

Will DeSantis win the primary? No

Why continue the argument and division of the base?

To: Moe-Patrick

The point is that Trump is less capable of winning the general (MOST IMPORTANT) than DeSantis and probably many other candidates. DeSantis is just the one most likely to pass Trump in primaries, that’s all that the focus on Ron means.

The division is coming from EverTrumpers. The cult will not play and will take their ball and go home, exactly the same behavior as their lord.

Part of the issue is that not every “Trump voter” is an EverTrumper. Many prefer him, but not all are rabid and childish about him. So do not count on these millions of minions completely sitting out.
